[DL-C] A Cleft Type Welcome

"Hey Bro!" Lenna greeted Turner who was standing next to their older brother
Farr'in when she arrived for her work out. "What are you
doing here this time of day? Shouldn't you be working on the new
gate with D'ren's work crew?"

"Hey brat!" he smiled as he returned her greeting. "Even us work
dogs get a free day once in a wile and when Farr told me you were
going to be working out with him this morning, I thought I'd tag
along."

"Oh good," she grinned. "I really could stand beating someone right
now. Always losing to him gets boring after a while. But I almost
had him yesterday."

Farr'in laughed as his two younger sibling moved to retrieve their
weapons. "In your wildest dreams little sister."

"Did so," she threw back at him. "Would have to if Meritanth hadn't
warned me Lonnie and B'rand were back form patrol. I didn't want
B'rand to see me here."

"So it's true what I heard about this challenge between the two
of you?" Turner asked as he began to do some stretching exercises.
"You really made a bet against the man?"

"Yup!" she admitted. "And I'm going to beat him too. It'll be nice
to have someone at my beck and call for a week."

Farr'in was glad she wasn't looking at him when she made the comment. Little
did she know.... He couldn't wait till he saw the red-head
later. He'd get a kick out of Lenna's boast for sure. May even get
him to work all the harder for a chance to beat her at her own game.

"Well if you two are finished, I suggest we get started." he said
and then started in on the lesson.

Sometime later as he was watching the two sparing, he had the
feeling as if someone was watching him and turned to see the new
rider he'd shown to the Warrenlady's office earlier.

"Get everything taken care of?" he asked when she moved to join them.

"Well I met the Warrenlady and she did seem as nice as you said she
would be," Callana answered. "You teach everyone around here?"

She was pointing to the man and the woman dueling it out on the open
space in front of them. The woman, she saw was holding her own and
seemed to be besting the man who was slowly backing away.

"No, not really." he told her as his eyes returned to the two.
"Turner get your guard up. She'll have your head in seconds if
that's the best you can do!"

Then he turned back to Callana. "Those two and a few others who ask.
I don't mind teaching people if they're serious and are willing to
work at it. I see you wear a sword. You any good with it?"

His question was meant to act as an ice breaker between them. He
wanted her to feel welcome in the Warren and know she would have
friends here if she chose.

"I can hold my own," she said, her eyes meeting his.

"Shall we?" he asked and pointed towards the space that had just
become available when the other two had called it quits.

"Sure, why not."

"Hey brother, why didn't you tell me she'd be out for blood when I
volunteered to help you out today," the other man asked as they
joined Farr'in and the girl standing beside him. His blue eyes
moved from the girl to his brothers, waiting for an introduction
as Lenna joined them.

"Callana, meet my brother Turner and sister Lenna, Blanchie's
rider," he told the girl. "This is Callana Blade, Slaire's rider
and the newest transfer to Cleft."

"It's nice to meet you," Lenna said and offered the girl her hand.
"Welcome to the Cleft."

"Thanks," the girl said as she accepted the offered hand.

"Same goes here," Turner told her. "I'm one of those you might find yourself
needing if you have problems with your new apartment when
you find one if you haven't already. I'm a doer around here since I
don't ride a dragon."

"Well if I find myself in need of anything like that, I'll be sure
to look you up."

"Speaking of helping someone to find a new place to live.... " Lenna
said suddenly as she began to pack away her weapons. "I need to be
going. I'm supposed to show another new transfer around the Warren
and help her find a place to settle in, before I meet B'rand for
dinner. I want to find out what he found out about that other thing."

Her striking blue eyes went from one brother to the other. They both
knew what she was talking about. B'rand had asked her to step back
and allow him to investigate something dealing with Dan'yar's attack
on his own and she'd agreed. (witch her brothers were shocked about
when they'd found out. Lenna giving in? Unheard of, they really did
need to learn how B'rand was doing it.)

"Will you two be joining the family for dinner tonight?" Turner
asked.

"Maybe," she replied. "Will see how things go. It was nice meeting
you Callana, I hope you learn to like it here in the Cleft."

"Thank you," the girl smiled. "I'm sure I will."

After Turner too had made his leave, Farr'in turned back to the girl.

"Ready for your first work out?" he asked. "Or would you prefer to
start looking for someplace to live? I feel that I do need to warn
you ahead of time that the accommodations here are rather rustic.
We haven't finished laying the lines for fresh water or gas into
most of the upper apartments... or the lower ones for that matter.
But you don't need to worry about that for we do have a fairly good
cook here in the dining hall."

After having Blanchie fly her up to her apartment for a quick shower
and a change of clothes, Lenna had the lavender dragon fly her back
to the place she arranged to meet Katrina to begin showing the girl around.

She was already there waiting when Blanchie landed.

"So how'd you enjoy your lunch?" Lenna asked after she'd dismounted
and came to stand before the girl.

"Not bad," Katrina grinned. "I can see where I won't mind spending
all my meals there until I get my own kitchen working."

"Well I hope you don't mind a long wait," Lenna joked. "It may be
sometime before they get that far. So what do you want to do first?
Have a more showy walk around the Warren to see where everything
is?.. or find someplace where you can put your things and call your
own?"

"Well if you don't mind..." the other woman started. "I would like
to find an apartment before it gets to dark to see where we're
looking."

Lenna laughed. She had a feeling she was going to like this girl.
Something about her sense of humor agreed with her.

"Your wish is my command," she bowed at the waist and swept her had
out in front of her. "This way, my lady."

"Just be careful not to take your eyes off of her when you go into
dark places," both women turned to find two men standing not far away.
Katrina guessed that the red-head must be the B'rand, that Lenna had
mentioned when the blond wrapped her arms around him and lifted her
lips to his for a kiss. She'd never get tired of kissing him.

"You have to excuse them..." the other blond-headed rider laughingly
told the new girl. "They're in love."

Katrina grinned back at him. "I really couldn't tell!" Her eyes were
wide with innocent fun.

"Stick around and you'll learn."

"Funny twin of my heart," Lenna laughed good heartedly as she moved
to the side, B'rand's arm still wrapped around her holding her by his
side.

"Katrina, Azure's rider. I'd like you to meet the two most important
men in my life. My twin Lonnie, Meritanth's rider... and my sparing
partner and love, B'rand. Rook's rider."

"Pleased to meet you," she said after the men had said the same.

"We were about to go on a tour of the Warren and find Katrina a
place to live," Lenna told the others. "So what are your plans
until dinner?"

Her eyes were on her lovers, asking a silent question.

"Oh nothing much," Lonnie was quick to say drawing her attention.
"We need to spend sometime filling in the new terrain we just flew
over on the map."

Her blue eyes went from her twin then back to her lover's. He wore
a smile on his face as he went along with her brothers comment.

"Yeah... fill in the map," he agreed. "Why don't we meet you back
in the dining hall later and have dinner with your family?"

He was up to something. She could tell by the look on his handsome
face. And he wasn't going to tell her what. Their eyes met and held
for a few minutes as she tried to find a way around his defenses. It
was useless. If he didn't want to tell her, he wouldn't.

"Ah... shouldn't you and Katrina get a move on it before you lose
the suns light?" Lonnie asked, with a grin on his face.

So he was in on it, she thought. Very well, she'd told B'rand she
would trust him to know what he was doing. Somehow she'd get him to
tell her about it later when they were alone in bed. Reaching up
again, she kissed him and then stepped away from his.

"All right, you two go fill in your map," she said letting both of
them know they weren't fooling her. "I'll be a good little girl for
now."

"Why do I find that hard to believe love?" B'rand laughed and pulled
her close for a quick hug, then he and Lonnie left.

"They're up to something," Lenna told the other girl as she watched
the two depart. "I only wish I could find out what."

"We could follow them and find out," Katrina said.

Lenna turned to look at her, tempted for a second to do just that.
But she had given B'rand her word, and she didn't mean to break it.

"No... it's a thought," she grinned at the girl, finding herself
liking her more and more. "But I'd never hear the end of it if they
caught us. Let's go find you a place to live."

Sometime later they had found just the right apartment for the girl.
Azure was happy with it, Blanchie had informed her rider. When they
had finished with their tour of the Warren it was already dinner time
and B'rand hadn't contacted her yet, so she asked her new friend if
she'd like to join her and have dinner with the family.

"They're a great group of people," Lenna told her as they walked
towards the dining hall. "But I'll have to warn you that there are
a lot of us here in the Warren. Most people joke that they can't
turn around without running into one of us."

"It must be nice having them all here with you," Katrina said as they neared
the entrance of the hall.

"It can be," Lenna agreed as she spotted her parents and the others.
"But there are times....Come... meet my family."

--------------------------------------------
Kris... if you want you can have Katrina tell the family a little
about yourself. Danki is the mother of them all and will be the one
to ask most of the questions.... the others will side track her if
they feel she'd getting to noisy or you start looking to
uncomfortable with it all.

Keri: You're also invited to dinner. Once again you need only say
what you feel like telling them. the family will take a hint if
they think you want to avoid certain things.....

And Last but NEVER forgotten :) Tag Allen *g*
