[DL-C] Tough Lessons

B'rand woke up slowly, feeling a sensation of utter well-being. He was on
his back, Lenna a pleasantly warm weight on his chest. Her fingers were
toying with his arm; as he shifted slightly, now awake, she turned her head
to look him in the eyes.
Those eyes...he would never get used to them. They were magic, drawing his
attention, pulling him in, and he was getting lost in their depths...until
her eyes closed and she softly pressed her mouth against his. As they
broke their kiss, her eyes turned mischevious; her fingers wandered down
his body, discovering that he was quite ready to play, thank you very much.
She moaned softly, encouragingly, nibbling at his neck while her fingers
toyed with him. Just as he was about to lose all semblance of control, she
was kissing him again, her body moving atop his, taking him inside her...
Yep, he could definitely get used to this.
***************
"Over there!" B'rand yelled.
Lonnie obligingly turned his dragon to where B'rand was pointing. They landed,
dismounting to search the ground yet again.
"Nope. I just don't see it," Lonnie said.
"Damn it, they've got to be somewhere!" B'rand countered.
"True, but they could very well have teleported in. They don't necessarily
have to have been close. I think you're going batty-that's the tenth time
you swear you've seen dragon spoor, and there's nothing. Don't let it drive
you like that."
"Fine, fine," B'rand said sarcastically. "We'll just sit around and let them
come to us, is that it?"
"Better that then you going crazy trying to find rogues." Lonnie winked.
"Or, is there another problem?"
"I already told you I'm going to see Farr'n. What more do you want?"
"A little less testiness from my patrol partner would be nice." The comment
may or may not have been ignored, as B'rand mounted Rook to continue
looking for clues...
**************
"So you're the one who ruined the mating flight."
B'rand threw up his hands and looked at Farr'n, then Lonnie. "I don't need
this. You want to help me, fine, but I don't need the damned jokes and
looks and little comments. I can do just fine."
"Show me." Farr'n threw a practice epee' over to B'rand, who caught it
expertly. "Well! I may not have to worry."
Ten seconds later he said, "Well, maybe I do. You don't know how to use the
thing at all, do you?"
B'rand set his chin. "Nope."
"How did you ever manage to survive this long with that attitude, then?"
Growling under his breath, B'rand reached over, picked up a spear, and
hurled all in one smooth motion. The spear whistled through the air, landing
with a thunk in the heart-target of a practice dummy.
"It's a matter of what weapons you like."
Farr'n whistled. "Can you do that consistently? Throw large objects?"
"I can throw damn near anything on target."
Farr'n chuckled as he looked at Lonnie. "No wonder they like each other-they
act exactly alike. B'rand, I think you might win this match."
"Why?"
"For one thing, I can teach you the basics, plus every trick Lenna could use.
She does fall back on several favorites, you know. Second, you'll have a
suprise. Lonnie, hand me that curved sword next to you. All right B'rand,
this will be your weapon. Carry it with you everywhere-it's your ticket
to victory."
"What the hell is it?" The sword was big, with a thicker blade and a
deep curve. The bell-guarded hilt was thick and heavy.
"It's called a 'cutlass'."
"Okay, so it's a cutlass. Why is it so special?"
"Because with practice, you can throw it." Farr'n smiled wickedly as
comprehension dawned on B'rands face.
