[DL-C] Parties and New Arrivals
by
Alton and Elizabeth Reich <alton.reich@snet.net>

[NRPG - A note on the timeline: Cynthia and Trevor are away from the
warren on what I'm calling Day 2. Based on Darren's posts, it would
seem that C'aranth arrives on Day 2 (when Cynthia is away), spends the
night and intends to attend a party on Day 3. I'm going to modify this
a bit so that the party Darren is referring to is the fish Fry on the
evening of Day 2. The other modification is that C'aranth would have to
meet Brisse in the Med Center on Day 2, since I think she goes into
labor at the fish fry. Ankara will arrive at the warren on Day 3 at
around noon. One last note, Cleft recently had a hatching and there no
eggs on the hatching sands. Therefore, Syren will be rising to mate
soon. Eligible candidatates should let me know of their interest in
winning soon.}

[Day 2 - afternoon]

> They held the kiss for a moment, then he drew back to look into
> her eyes.
> "Well then," she said softly, "we'll just have to see that you get a
> different trainer...Bohoc??"
>
> Trevor chuckled. "Sorry, he's definitely not my type, though I
> suppose he
> and Triss might..."
>
> Cynthia made a face, and after glancing over at her queen,
> quickly moved
> to get up.. "No, no, that's not what I meant! Syren says that
> Bohoc is here! He just spoke to her. She says that he's bringing
> Andahar here to speak to us!" She tossed Trevor's clothes to him,
> then began putting her own on. "Go and talk to him, and I'll join
> you in a minute!"

Cynthia struggled with her underwear for a moment before scooping her
clothes and running toward the foliage at the edge of the grassy bank.
Trevor watched her for a moment and laughed before beginning to get
dressed himself.

Within the greenery of the surrounding trees Cynthia found a convienient
place to hang her clothing. She began to dress at a more normal pace.
After all, it wouldn't do for the Warrenlady to be seen with her pants
on backwards. She picked a flower from a nearby tree and affixed it in
her hair before stepping out of the shelter of the trees and back into
the grass.

> Trevor had just finished dressing when he heard the sound of a
> dragon backwinging in to land. He stepped around the obscuring bulk of the
> platinum queen, and saw the smaller green dragon crouching down so
> that the Nomad rider could dismount. Andahar walked towards him,
> holding his hand up in a gesture of greeting. Trevor did likewise.
> Perhaps now they'd find out why Andahar had left Cleft so quickly
> after his recent arrival.
>
> "Bohoc and I saw you arrive," the Nomad said without preamble.
> "He felt that I should speak to you since you come to our valley."
>
> Trevor didn't miss the emphasis on the word "our," and realized
> that this was where Andahar lived. Well, so much for giving this place over
> to the rogues. He wondered even more just how much Andahar had seen
> *since* their arrival...
>
> "We did not mean to trespass," Trevor told him, hoping that his
> rather scanty command of the Nomad tongue would be good enough for the
> other rider to understand. Just then, Cynthia stepped into view.
> Once again, she looked every inch the Warrenlady.
>
> "We did not know that anyone lived here," Trevor continued.
> "Andahar, why are you here? Why did you leave warren?"

{Arlene, insert answer here.}

[Day 2 - Later afternoon at the Warren]

Syren appeared in the sky over Cleft Warren and roared a greeting to the
watch dragon on the upper green. Cynthia steered the queen into a wide,
spiral descent toward the lower green. Syren flared her wings and
landed gently on the grass.

Trevor dismounted first and helped Cynthia down. She paused for a
moment and began to untie a leaf wrapped bundle from the saddle.

"So, what do we do with this?" she asked.

"We cook it and eat it," Trevor replied.

"Thanks, I knew that. How do you want to cook it?"

"I always thought that fish tasted better cooked over and open camp
fire. We could build a fire pit here and cook the fish in it."

"Do you need a hand digging the fire pit?" Cynthia asked.

"Probably not," Trevor replied, "but I could probably use some help
moving the fish."

Cynthia laughed, remembering the struggle they went through to hold the
fish in place while trying to lash it down. "I'll see what I can do."

[Day 2 - Evening at the fish fry]

> She grinned broadly at him. "I asked Syren to pass a message along to my
> courier - to have the dining hall ready to send additional supplies down here
> if we need them. Also to have Karen come down to help with the cooking...that
> way, we can slip out whenever we want!"
>
> Trevor laughed, drawing her into a tight embrace. "You're wonderful!" he
> told her!

"I'm not half as wonderful as that fish smells," she said after they had
finished placing it on pans over the fire.

"I'm not so sure about that," Trevor replied, "You're much more
versitile then the fish."

"You have a point," Cynthia laughed.

A shadow fell across them, and Cynthia looked up to see a man they
didn't recognize standing between them and the slowly setting sun. "I'm
C'aranth," he said, "Are you Warrenlady Cynthia?"

Cynthia stood up and extended her hand to him, "I'm Cynthia. Welcome to
Cleft Warren."

He took her hand and grasped it firmly, "I've come here from Falagand
and I'm going to be staying for a while."

"You're welcome to stay for as long as you'd like. Have you found an
apartment?"

"Yes, Turner helped me find one in the unjoined baracks."

"Turner's a good man," Trevor said.

"He was very helpful," C'aranth replied.

"Please," Cynthia said, "join us. The fish will be ready soon, and it
smells like it will be good."

"Thank you. Do you need any help?" C'aranth asked.

A few minutes later Trevor and C'aranth had brought up baskets of plates
and utensiles from the dining hall and the crowd was beginning to form
around the fire pit.

It was a while before Trevor and Cynthia were alone again. She was lost
in thought.

"You seem distracted," Trevor finally said.

"Mmm. I was just thinking about C'aranth. The way he pronounced his
name, he sounded like a rider."

"You think he lost his dragon?"

"Maybe. I wonder if I should introduce him to R'bert."

"If C'aranth has lost his dragon, he might be able to help R'bert cope.
It seems like a good idea," Trevor agreed.

"I thought so," Cynthia said with a yawn.

"Tired already? The party is just getting started."

"I'm ready to go to bed and fall asleep."

"Oh," Trevor said, looking dissapointed.

Cynthia smiled, "You're so gullible." She leaned over and kissed him
tantilizingly, "Now let's go mingle."

[Day 3 - West of Cleft]

Zoranth and Dotarth rode the thermals rising off the desert beneath them
in a lazy flight to the west. They had been patroling over the broad
desert west of the warren for a few hours and had been loving it. Even
though patrol over the desert was considered by some to be one of the
worst patrol assignments by the riders at Cleft, M'yer and P'ker didn't
agree. It may have been boring, but it wasn't cold.

P'ker kept glancing off to the south, a fact that was not lost on his
partner. Lenna and Katrina were somewhere to the south patroling the
edge of the desert where it met the broad, grassy plain that surrounded
Hehran's River.

"She's too far away to see!" M'yer called out to his partner.

"Who's too far away?"

"Katrina, you knothead. Don't try to deny who you're looking for."

"I'm not looking for anyone," P'ker replied, "I'm just looking for
wraiths."

"He's full of shit," M'yer mumbled and he felt Dotarth rumble with
merryment beneath him.

They flew on for a moment before M'yer saw something to the north.
"P'ker did you see that?" he called.

"See what?"

"Nevermind! Just follow me!"

Dotarth turned into a broad turn to the right and began to loose
altitude.

*What do you see buddy?* M'yer asked relying on the dragon's superior
sense of vision.

<There's someone down there. Lying in the sand. I didn't think humans
liked lying in warm sand.>

*They normally don't. Let's go check it out.*

Dotarth flared his wings and dropped like a stone to the sand below.
Zoranth landed about 20 feet beyond and both riders dismounted and
walked through the soft sand.

Ankara lay in the sand and looked with unfocused eyes in their
direction.

M'yer reached her first and knelt down next to her, "P'ker! Grab my
water skin!"

The dark skinned rider detoured over to Dotarth and retrieved the skin,
which he brought to M'yer.

M'yer uncorked it and pressed it to Ankara's lips. The young woman
brought her hands up to help pour the water into her mouth. "Easy,"
M'yer said and tried to slow the flow of liquid from the skin.

Strength returned to Ankara quickly, and she picked her head up of the
snad and saw their dragons nearby. Her eyes went wide and she began to
back away, "Dragons," she yelled hoarsly.

"It's ok," P'ker said, "they are our dragons."

She looked at P'ker in fear.

"Nice going genius," M'yer said, "We're here to help you. You need food
and you need to get out of this desert."

"Dragons are evil, they hurt people," Ankara said slowly in the tongue
of the Dragonlands.

"These dragons aren't bad and they won't hurt you," M'yer tried to
explain, but as he approached Ankara, she backed away.

"Do we really have time for this?" P'ker asked.

He stepped forward quickly and Ankara was too weak to back away. He
leaned forward and picked her up over his shoulder. She pounded at his
back with her fists, but the blows had no effect.

"Ready to go?" he asked M'yer.

M'yer looked from P'ker to the struggling woman over his shoulder and
back, "One of these days you're going to get us both in trouble."

"Your dragon or mine?" P'ker asked.

"Mine. You can put her infront of me. I suspect she'll stop struggling
once we get off the ground," M'yer replied.

NRPG:
Gabrielle: You can handle the trip back. They'll probably take her to
the Med Center where S'lomon will examine her. I think Brisse will be
there, too (see below).

Lyn: I'm assuming that Brisse is in labor. I decided to shy away from
the subject in case I was mis-interpreting something.

John: I left the evening of Day 2 a bit open ended.

Kris: P'ker is interested, feel free to have he and Katrina meet at the
fish fry or before patrol.

Respectfully submitted,
Warrenlady Cynthia - Cleft Warren
P'ker & Zoranth
M'yer & Dotarth
