MIDNIGHT day 8

Ankara woke up again from her fitfull rest to find that M'yer was once again
at her bedside. The past few days he had stayed with her for the most part,
even when she had been sleeping, which was often.

He must have heard the rustle of her sheets because before here eyes were
fully adjusted to the dim light of the room he was bending over her and
assisting her upright.

"Im fine, im fine.. you dont need to baby me. I dont even know why Im still
here, I think I should go home soon, Im sure there are others who need this
bed more than I do." she snapped.

Immediately after the words left her lips she felt guilty, there was no point
in taking out her feelings on M'yer, he diddnt deserve it.

"Your probably right" He replied, "but there is no point in moving back
tonight, its late and I dont think the med center is that full yet.. tomorrow
may be a different story."

"Whats happening tomorrow?" she said sitting up in bed confused, her head
reeled slightly and she winced clutching it.

M'yers eyes seemed to glow in the moon light like a man who has stepped over
the brink of insanity. There was vengence in that look, he whent to Jhezrael
for more than to rescue the two women and the dragon eggs, precious as they
were there was another purpose that would spur them on.. revenge.

"We attack Jhezrael, Cynthia and Kellie have been captured, allong with a
good portion of Syrens eggs, Tomorrow we go in full force to reclaim them
all."

She gasped outloud and instantly she had his attention, M'yer leaned forward
to see her better in the dim light, afraid she was in pain but Ankara's pain
was internal.
She suddenly grabbed his shoulders and attempted to shake him in vain.

She hissed through clenched teeth "You cant go there! M'yer promise me you
wont go there! if you go you will die, you cant fight them! you cant kill the
gods, Damnit M'yer listen to me! I know you want to set things right, but
going to get yourself killed is not the way! You have a dragon, we could have
the world!"

Her pleas fell on deaf ears but she continued entreating him as rapidly as
was possable so he had to listen.

"We can fly away from it all M'yer, leave it all behind us.. go start a new
life somewhere. I heard there were mountains to the south where no man has
gone, and no dragon either. we can find a valley somewhere where no one will
find us! There are no gods yet in those lands, no one to tell us what to do,
no one to harm us...."

M'yer broke her hold on him roughly and spun out of his chair and began to
pace the floor in rapid angry steps. His hands were like knots of sinew and
bone and Ankara could see the veins in his neck and his jaw clenched tight,
even in the dim light.

"No! I will not run away and let some men.. (and believe me Ankara.. they are
men not gods!) Take away my friends, hurt the ones i care for, and invade our
home, and then go running away like a coward! I will NOT let them get away
with what they did to you!"

He spun around and grabbed her pulling her out of the bed so that she faced
him eye to eye, She could not see him now, he was in her shadow, but she could
feel his rapid breath on her face. She cringed afraid all of a sudden for no
reason. She had never known anyone as kind as M'yer, and her concious mind
told her that he would never hurt her.. but a small part inside of her trusted
no one, and that was the part that cringed away from him now.

M'yer sensed this, and he slumped slightly pivoting to dump her softly into
the chair beside the bed. He sighed dejectedly, and walked toward the door his
shoulders slumped.

"I have to go Ankara, there my friends.... and I know Cynthia would do the
same for me." He said pausing at the door his back turned to her. "We cant
live in fear, we have to protect these lands, and if that means that we face
wraith, men, or the gods themselves so be it!" and with that he walked out
leaving Ankara sobbing into her hands scilently.

---------------------------------
Early morning day 9

Ankara watched the sun rise over Cleft from the door to the med center. She
watched the landscape turn colors from blue grey and violet to the oranges and
yellows of the desert land that was all she knew. This was a new day, and
Ankara dreaded the outcome.

M'yer was leaving to go to battle on this day, and she may never see him
again, and nearly everyone she had met since coming here would certainly meet
there doom. And then the gods would wreck there vengence on Cleft destroying
it as they had promised.

But there was nothing she could do about it, they would never listen, and she
couldent stand watching it happen.

Part of her wanted to die like the rest of them, but part of her wanted to get
away to see what happened from a distance so she could watch for survivors if
there were any and try to help what ever life managed to escape the wrath of
the gods.

She slipped out of the door way and made her way to her apartment on the
outside lip of Cleft. Her things were easily packed, all except for the wool
she had dyed several days ago.. this she would leave behind since it wasnt
really hers anyway.. it was a part of Cleft, and so she would leave it to be
destroyed with the rest.

She stood in the doorway of what was her apartment for a few moments trying to
decide which way to go. She needed a place where she wouldent be spotted by
air, since she knew the invaders would be riding dragons, or be swept up in a
brush fire since it was the god of fire that would destroy the place.
Somewhere cool.. somewhere safe.

The only place she could think of like that was a cave, there wer many to
choose from here certainly.. but she needed one where she wouldent be found.
The cliffs above Cleft had to have some deep caves she could hide in, but how
she would get up there was a mystery.. then she remembered seeing a rough
pathway going up the cliffs on the inner wall of cleft, it had to lead
somewhere.. maybe there would be shelter up there where she could watch over
Cleft untill it was all over.

She headded across the warren green and began to scale the steep cliff walls.
Luckily no one seemed to be stirring yet, it was around five oclock she
estimated, they would be up soon she had to hurry.

At the top of the cliff was a flat streach of grass, Ankara realized that she
had flown over this once with M'yer, it looked so different from the air.. he
had called it the upper green. Ankara was dissapointed to see that there was
even less cover up her than there was below.. nothing looked promising.

It was then that she noticed the cave mouth.. wait this wasnt a cave it was a
corridor, made to look like a cave it sloped downwards and looked like it
would serve the purpose of helping her remain hidden while allowing her a view
of cleft. If trouble arose she would be safe inside and could run down the
corridor to safety.

ok ankara is in the cave,
if you were wondering wich cave it is you might recall the cave trissana took
on her first day out of the shell to find her new rider on the upper green...
this corridor leads to the hatching cavern.
no one find her please my next post will have ankara meeting the eggs.
Ankara is sure that all who go to the enemy camp will die and the gods will
retaliate by whiping cleft off the map.. she will remain in the caves untill
its all over.
