>"Well, Cleft is growing," Cynthia gestured, "I think we'll have enough
>riders to need another wing after the next hatching. I'd like you to think
>about what your answer would be if I were to offer you the job."

Meena nodded in surprise. "I will. I'll think about it. But why? I mean I
just got here .. you don't know me."

"No, perhaps not, but I have had minor dealings with Naomi at the counsel
meetings and I trust her judgement. And .. " the warrenlady said, ".. I
also trust Farr'in's judgement. I know things were .. bad .. between us
recently, but I know he only did what he had to. And I do respect that. And
he thinks very highly of you."

"I think very highly of him .." Meena said as she turned her head to see
him waving to his brother's as they took off.

"Go ahead." Cythia said.

"What?"

"I know he has to leave. Go ahead .. go say good-bye. You and I can talk
about this later."

Meena nodded gratefully, "Thank you." She headed off to where Farr'in was
standing.

"You're heading back?"

He nodded. "Naomi will be worrying, I'm sure."

Meena nodded, "Probably. You'll tell her .." She paused as Farr'in grinned.
And she found herself returning his smile.

"I won't let you down."

She chuckled, "I know."

"Are you gonna be okay?"

She nodded, "It's .. it's a little scary. I've never gone anywhere on my own."

"Just remember you aren't alone. My whole family is here for you."

Meena laughed, "And there are a lot of them!"

"They'll take care of you."

Meena nodded, "Thanks  .." The stood looking at each other. Knowing the
good-bye was coming, but neither of them wanting to say it.

"This is harder then I thought." He said finally, pulling her close.

"Yes it is .." she agreed melting into his arms. Gods! She was going to
miss him. It was funny how things worked out. She'd never had a friend like
Farr'in and now she was losing him too ..

"I'll be back in a few days with more of your things."

She nodded and pulled back, allowing him the freedom to climb up on
Tergath's back. He looked back at her and waved, then the brown launched
into the air.

Meena took a step back to get out of the dragon's down draft, wrapping her
arms around herself and watching as he vanished in the wink of an eye. She
suddenly felt very very alone ..

Farr'in had been right. His family was there for him. Particularly his
mother who had helped her find an apartment. It wasn't real big .. but it
would do. And Demee like it due to the small bed-like niche in the wall of
the room that was to be his. It was big enough for his mattress. And that's
where he intended to sleep.

The little boy was quick to note that the sandy bed for Vonn looked a
little to big for the Albino alone. "Tergath would fit nicely too!"

Meena sighed, reminding the boy that Uncle Farr'in lived in Norwall and
they were going to live here now. But the boy was undaunted reminding her
that the dragonrider would be coming to visit.. he had promised.

Danki only smiled, offering no help to the young woman. She invited Meena
to join them for dinner and Demee accepted before Meena could even get a
word in. So they had all returned to the apartment Farr'in's parents
maintained.

Dinner was very good, and Meena found she'd not had time to be lonely yet.
Once again Farr'in had been proven right. And she really liked his parents.
They didn't even know her, yet had taken her in with hardly the flutter of
an eyelash. Gods! Her own father wouldn't have done that! Look at the way
he'd treated his own son ..

<Meena, the warrenlady would like to see you on the green.>

<Now? What for?> Meena asked as Vonn interrupted her dinner.

<I'm not sure, but there might be trouble ..>

<Tell them we'll be right there.>

She refocused on the table and Demee grinned, "Bye Mommie!"

Danki looked up from the boy to his mother and Meena shrugged a bit
self-consciously, "He .. umm .. talks to Vonn. The warrenlady wants me to
join her on the green."

"All right, you go ahead, dear." Danki said, "We'll keep Demee here."

Meena nodded, "Thank you." She turned to her son. "You be good Demee. And
stay inside. And don't bother the dragons .."

Demee nodded, frowning a little, "I'm a good boy, mommie."

"I know, sweetie."

"He'll be fine," Danki assured her.

Meena nodded and with a final look at the dark-headed five-year old, she
turned to meet Vonn.

On the green she got to meet Kellie, the woman Dan'yar had suggested would
make a good partner for her. It would be strange to not have Jahn as her
partner .. but she thought she might like the woman. But she was soon to
discover there was indeed trouble. There had been an attack by wilders, and
several riders were still in danger.

>"We found evidence of dragons, and went into a cave to look for them,"
>B'rand replied, "We were attacked by wilders. Trevor and I teleported back
>here. Dan'yar and C'aranth stayed behind in the cave. Lonnie and D'arcon
>were outside the mountain, so I have no idea what happened to them."

>"Where was the cave?" Cynthia asked.

>"It was at the top of a mountain just north of where C'aranth was
>attacked," Trevor said, "Trissana can show Syren."

>"Just have her show Varie and Vonn," Cynthia replied. She turned to the
>two women, "Go see if you can find the others, and be careful."

>"We will," Meena replied confidently.

Another woman appeared and offered her help. "Is there anything Azure and I
can do? I sure hope everyone is alright," she finished saying as she looked
up at the darkening sky.

Cynthia nodded, "Meena and Kellie you go on with B'rand and Trevor. I'll
fill in Katrina and Lenna."

Meena nodded as she notice Farr'in's youngest sister, Lenna. She'd not had
more then a passing introduction to the girl, but she'd heard a lot about
her.

She didn't have time to think on it anymore as one of the riders urged them on.

>"Well if we're going then lets go!"

>"Mount up riders," he shouted to get everyone's attentions while he had
>Shinner pass it alone mentally. "Let's go home.

Meena nodded and with one last look at the cave she headed out to meet
Vonn. All that work and they'd come up empty handed. Everyone was more then
a little upset about that!  <Let's go get Demee, love.>

<Demee's smile will brighten your mood.> Vonn replied.

<Yours too, you silly dragon.>

<Hearing our hatchling always cheers me .. even more then seeing him.>

Meena smiled. She was getting used to the talent her son had. She had to
keep reminding herself that Harkon had no power of her here. It didn't
matter if he found out now. Demee was far from his reach..  Still she
worried. She knew his reach, though limited was still far longer then she
cared to admit.

And Demee would not be safe if he knew where she was. She would take great
pains to make sure he never found out.
