"One of Trissana's," he said. "Young dragons shed them pretty fast
during their first week or so. I just happened to have kept this one."
He leaned over and laid it on the bed within C'aranth's reach. "I was
the one who took that scale away from you in the cavern after you passed
out," he said. "I had to do it, of course...the dragons wouldn't take
you while you were carrying it, and we couldn't leave you up there to
die. Still, I understand you...um, collect these things...so I thought
I should do something to replace the one I took."
C'aranth looked at the small scale, the irredecent scale stood out like
a diamond on the drab blanket. He reached down and slowly picked it
up. "I would mean you no disrespect, and I would like to thank you for
your kindness, but it isn't the same." He held the scale gingerly in
his hand as if it would crumble under his touch, the colors made it look
as if it were made from some rare stone. "It isn't mine to take, and I
doubt she would appreciate you giving it to me. I doubt anyone would."
C'aranth set the scale back down. "Please take it back, again I am
honored you have given me this, but I feel it would do harm instead of
good for me to take it." C'aranth slowly bowed his head in respect.
"There is something you can do for me, a favor if you could."
Trevor took the scale and smiled, "Sure, what?" He looked a little
nervous, or perhapes something else.
"The hospital has a very poor selection of books to read, I was
wondering if you could retrieve some of mine from my apartment. As well
as a leather pouch, it is very large, and should be on my bed. It has
drawing materials and paper in it, that is how you will know it. I
would be very thankful for this favor. I would go, but I fear the
doctor would protest severly." C'aranth smiled slightly at the small
joke.
"Yeah, it is no problem." He smiled brightly back at C'aranth.
He held out a small piece of paper, "They are sorted acording to author
and subject, you should have no problem finding the books. Thank you
very much for doing this."
Trevor took the paper and looked over the list of a dozen book, topics
ranged from warren administrstion to poetry. "I will get these too you
as soon as I can." Trevor smiled and left.
(Tag- I don't know when you will get the books and bag to him, a small
post I know, but it is all I can think of right now·.)
