Day Three - amidst the chaos in the Warrenladyâs office

<snip >
"Okay then let's get started," he stood and nodding to Madyllin for
permission said. "Let's go save this Warren."
<end snip>

ãIf Turner is correct, weâll need to get things at least 20 feet up. How far
can people get without dragons?ä

ãNot above the second level apartments.ä

ãOk, someone start herding the children up that far. We should have time to
concentrate on a few other things before we need to move them further up.ä

Farrâin nodded and headed out the door. Lonnie stood up and headed toward
the door as well. ãIâll go start on Trevorâs office,ä he called over his
shoulder. Danâyar paused to look closely at Madyllin. ãIâm going to go check
on the Med Center. Iâll be right back,ä he promised. Madyllin nodded and he
left.

Someone handed Madyllin a box and she began piling things into it, trying
desperately to think through everything. The Med Center! She had forgotten
it completely. Was there anything else she had forgotten?

Davyd suddenly rushed in without bothering to knock. "Where is Warrenlady
Cynthia?" he demanded of Madyllin, Katrina, Turner and Kellie.

"Not here," Madyllin said in a business like tone, that implied she didn't
have time for idle chatter.

"Doesn't matter," Davyd replied, "The library is flooding. We've got save
the books."

Madyllin looked up at him in frustration. The warren was on the verge of
destruction, they couldnât find the warrenlady and he wanted her to deal with
the bloody library? Remembering her earlier rudeness to Lonnie, she took a
deep, calming breath before speaking.

ãDavyd, I appreciate your concerns, but unfortunately the library is not a
priority.ä When his face darkened with anger she raised a hand before he
could speak. ãFeel free to take any of the men your Lord has left here and
up to 5ä she held up one hand, fingers open to make her point, ãof our
unjoined adults. Box up what you can and move them to second level
apartments. We will move them further out of danger when we can.ä

Davyd glared impotently at her for a moment and then appeared to think things
through. He nodded. ãThank you. Weâll get right on it.ä He turned on his
heel and left quickly.

 Why did it have to flood now, of all times? Couldnât it have waited until
Cynthia was here to take charge? She wasnât ready for this - what if she
missed something? What if Cynthia never came back? Oh gods, let them be
safe, she wailed silently and then stopped, ashamed of what she heard.

{I knew the spoiled little princess wouldnât be able to handle it. Good
thing we didnât keep her here. Sheâs a waste of Keldarraâs resources. A
waste of a queen.}

Madyllin clamped her lips together in a tight line. Sheâd show Dâneor!
Biggest mistake heâd ever made, throwing her away to this wasteland. She let
the anger build, channelling it into her work. Farrâin returned with the
news that most of the trainees had been grabbed by Mâker and Pâker to fill
sandbags. Madyllin stifled yet another sigh and nodded. Turner gave a short
exclamation and was out the door without further words. Danâyar returned to
report that the Med Center appeared to have things under control. Madyllin
relaxed slightly. Good, she thought, at least that mistake wasnât going to
haunt her - not yet anyway.

ãWe need more than one person working on each office.ä Kellie stood up.
ãIâll go help Lonnie,ä she offered. Madyllin looked up to meet the womanâs
eyes. Impulsively, she reached out and squeezed her arm. ãYou do that.
Trevor will want his maps nice and dry when he comes back.ä Kellie gave her
a faint smile of understanding and headed out the door.

When he comes back - or IF? she asked herself. If there was no way to stop
this flood - and Turner seemed to think there wasnât - the property damage
was going to be immense, but how many lives might this warren lose? Lives
she was responsible for. Mindlessly, Madyllin kept grabbing records and
packing them up, her thoughts continually providing her with images of the
devastation if she failed.

The heat in here was ridiculous, she thought. A quick glance around the room
showed that only she appeared to be bothered by it. I suppose with time I
will become a Cleft-ite, she thought, totally at ease with all this heat.
Surreptitiously, she unbuttoned the first few buttons of her dress, trying to
cool off. It wasnât helping. She found her attention wandering away from
the packing up and quickly forced herself back to work. Ignore the heat, she
scolded herself, this warren is depending on you!

She couldnât ignore it, though, as she mechanically continued filling boxes.
The overwhelming desert heat - as she had thought - was being replaced,or
followed, with an entirely different sort of heat. She stopped, aghast, as
the realization of was was happening sank in.

<Ayesha! Not now!>

<NOW!>

>From outside, they could hear the bugling challenge as Ayesha took to the
air. Farrâin and Katrina glanced at her in surprise. She shrugged
helplessly, trying to clamp down on the desire rising within her.

ãKatrina, keep things going in here. Someone will be back to help you.ä

Katrina grinned and nodded as Madyllin headed out the door into the rain,
with Farrâin right behind her. Her eyes moved upward to track Ayesha through
the rain as her hands continued unbuttoning her dress. She was vaguely aware
of other males srrounding her, helping her, but all her attention was
rivetted on Ayesha.

<These puny males can never catch me!>

<Never, dearest. Fly, high and away. None here are worthy.>

Madyllin exulted as Ayesha streaked across the sky, a dark shape soaring
higher. And then the lines that divided her and Ayesha into separate beings
was blurred and she was soaring, taunting and teasing the males around her.
None of them was worthy. They could try and touch her and catch her, but
they never would. She would outfly them all!

The talons grabbed her wings as the neck and tail entwined with her own.
Surprised, she tried to rear back, but was held by the arm around her waist.

<I have caught you.  I am worthy.>

Ayesha glared at the green clinging to her. <None are worthy!> She rolled
and twisted, trying to dislodge him, but to no avail. Bohoc had made his
catch and he was going to keep it.

<I accept.>

The dragons flew off to complete thier deal as Madyllin and Andahar grabbed
the nearest room.
