Wingleader's Choice
Dan'yar finished his talk with Cynthia about Trevor, then change the
subject. Well not really changed the subject, but changed the names of the
people he'd wanted to talk to her about.
"I thought I'd let you know that I'm also going to have the girl's join the
training," he held up his hand when she would have vetoed the idea... he
knew she'd been about to.. He could see it in the expression on her face.
"Yes I know they are young yet to be full fledged dragonriders," he admitted
with a knowing grin. "But I believe they are old enough, having been raised
in the warren, to warrant the training. I don't plan on having them join the
Wing until they're a few years older.. But I insist upon them being trained
to know "what to do" if they happen to get involved in a situation like
Trissana and Bohoc did yesterday."
"I don't know if I like the idea of them training to flame Dan'yar," she
frown. "I mean they shouldn't even really have been allowed to stand on the
sands for at lease two more years.."
"They weren't "Allowed" to stand on the sands in Keldarra. They dragon's
hatched and came looking for them," he reminded her. "Besides..I'm not
asking permission to allow them to join the training Wing.."
"You're not?" she turned and saw him shake his head.
"Nope," he half grinned. "I'm just informing you as to what I'm going to do."
"And I don't have any say in this matter?"
"No.. In this as a Wingleader here in the Cleft, I don't need anyone's
approval when dealing with the well being and care of a dragonrider," he
informed her, no humor left in his tone. "They are my daughters and I will
do for them what I feel is best under the circumstances. It would have been
better had their dragon's waited those few years but as they didn't, I'm
going to have to deal with it now, and I want to make sure they don't abuse
the honor they've been granted. I want them to understand that they have a
great responciblity now and that having joined, it doesn't mean they can
just do what they want anytime they want. I want them to be trained so that
it'll keep them from making some of the mistakes other young riders have
made. In point, I want them trained to make sure they stay out of trouble,
and stay alive."
"Well if you put it that way," Cynthia drawled, and raised her coffee cup to
him in acceptance. She had known the twins since they had been born, and
while they were good kids most of the time, they were kids and had often
used their being identical and telepathic with each other to play tricks.
"But how are we to tell them and their dragons apart? Name tags maybe?"
"I've already thought of that," he grin sheepishly. "I've been working on
saddles for them when the time comes and have made them different colors."
"Since when did something like that stop the twins?"
............
Dan'yar left her office a little while later and asked Shinner to find out
from Trissana, where her rider was.
<Triss said her rider can be found in the leather shop talking to your
sire,> the copper-green dragon informed his rider.
<<Tell him to stay there and I'll meet him there.>>

"So you see, Trevor with this design the dragons can have as much fun as
they want with the ball, but even if their teeth break through the leather,
it won't pop or deflate because of the rubber ball inside of it." Yarik was
saying when Dan'yar entered his families shop. "And if they wear out the
leather it'll be easy to just replace it."
"I'm sure the dragon's will love that," Trevor grinned, taking the new ball
from the older leather worker and inspected it. "But it may be a bit heavy
for Cynthia and I if we want to play along with them." Trevor said with some
amusement as he noticed the obvious increase in weight of the ball.
"Oh don't worry none about that," Yarik grinned, his eyes twinkling in his
mirth. "Cynthia won't be able to bite through it any easier then the dragons."
Trevor seemed about to say something, but instead chuckled and kept quiet.
He was tossing it up in the air and catching it when the third time the ball
didn't come back down into his hand.
Both men turned then, and finally noticed Dan'yar standing there, ball in
hand, his lips curved up in a wide grin that made his face seem even more
handsome then usual, drawling shy smiles from some ladies near by. Smiles he
didn't even notice as he regarded the man he had come to fine.
"A new tool to use while mapping?" he joked good naturally as he tossed the
ball back to Trevor.
"No," the younger man chuckled. "But once I get done mapping the entire
world around us, I'll be able to paint them on this globe."
"Humm" Dan'yar murmured. "That might be worth waiting to see. But in the
mean time I talked to Cynthia and told her that I'm going to be including
you in the next training Wing."
"So how did she take it?" Trevor wanted to know.
"She agreed to having you and Triss learn to take care of yourselves..." the
Wingleader said then hesitated.
"But?" Trevor prompted.
"She doesn't want you being assigned to a patrol schedule, but I disagree
with her on that." Dan'yar told him. "As a Wingleader and a fellow
dragonrider I feel that being assigned to a patrol would do you both a great
deal of good. You'd learn things there that you might not otherwise and what
you do know could save both your lives. So how would you feel about going
out on patrol a couple of times a week and not mentioning it to certain people."
[Tag John!! So is Trevor up to being sneaky? :) ]
