[DL-D] Becoming a teacher and pissing one off

Dyanisa wandered around the Med Center searcing for something to do, but
nothing turned up. She walked outside and headed toward the green, leaving
Fae'Rhee in the Med Center. The girl knew the way back, she'd be fine.
<^Sienra, is Jadain free right now?^> Dyanisa asked.
<He says he is. Gonna give him his lesson now?> Sienra inquired, knowing
how much her rider had been looking forward to it.
<^Why not? I have some free time for once today.^>
<Where do you want him to meet you?> 'Ra asked with out any curiousity.
<^On the green.^>
<Should he bring anything?>
<^If he's been working with any weapons, other than a sword, tell him to
bring them.^>
<He'll be there shortly.>
And he was, arriving only moments after Dyanisa with an eager grin on his
face. To his credit, it drooped only a little when he didn't see any
visable weapons on her, especially the halberd.
She greeted him with a smile and got down to business. "Know..other weapons?"
"Rezsia is teaching me how to use knives."
Rezsia, the name ws familiar. Oh, yes the party. The woman knew how to
throw them, that was for sure. Dy wished she knew what the woman looked
like, it had been too dark to tell.
That didn't tell her how good Jadain was, however. Bending over she scraped
together a rather large snow ball. Straightening, she held the snowball in
her flat right hand about a foot away from her body, positioning it so that
from Jadain's line of sight, the snowball was against a white background.
"Hit it," she said tersely, knowing no more explaination was needed from the
disbelief on the boys face.
"Uh, shouldn't you put it down some where first, Dyanisa?" he asked
uncertainly with his knife in his hand.
"No, hit it." When he still hesitated she added a stern "Now!"
Looking at her like she was nuts, he threw, and would have grazed her right
hand if she hadn't moved it.
"Good." He had a good basic technique and his aim would improve with
practice. It also meant that he could pick out the snow ball against a
matching background, another point in his favor.
He scampered past her to retrieve the knife out of the snowbank landed in.
He started to put it away when she cleared her throat meaningfully.
Blushing slightly, he wiped the blade on his shirt.
"Keep," she said, before he put the knife away. The knife was good for more
than throwing and she wanted to find out if he knew how to use it in a fight.
Suddenly, she lunged at him. Instictively he brought up the knife, but not
with the expertise that comes from being trained with it. She whirled past
him and sighed.
"Put...ground," she said, gesturing to the knife. Confused, he complided
and looked at her bewilderedly. Decietfully, she threw her voice over to
the left so it sounded as if there was a sparrow about five feet away (a
very handy skill when dealing with some predetors) and obediently he turned
towards the sound.
Again she lunged, and again he reacted, but with only the naturally quick
reflexes of a child, not with any sort of martial arts training. That was
where she'd begin her teachings then, with the martial arts.
Smiling encouragement, she started showing him some basic exercises and
defensive moves. Then she made him repeat them over and over again until he
could do them perfectly over and over again.
"Good," she said. Jadain stopped, wiping the sweat out of his eyes.
"Tomorrow?"
"Ok, is Sienra going to call me again when you want me?" Jadain asked while
retrieving his knife which was still on the ground.
"Yes, ok?"
"Yeah, see you tomorrow. Thanks," she smiled wickedly as he turned and
walked back inside. He would not be thanking her tomorrow morning, that was
for sure.
<^Do we have anything else to do today, 'Ra?^> Dyanisa asked, walking back
to the apartment.
<Our lesson with Jer'lin. He said we get to teleport today,> Sienra said
excitedly.
Oh, yeah, she'd almost forgotten about that.
<You'd be lost without me, Dy.>
<^No, dear, I have a better sense of direction than you do. I'd only miss a
lot of appointments.^>
<Oh, so now I'm only a secretary?> Sienra responded in mock indignantion
<^Daily planner would be a better term,^> Dyanisa quiped back, enjoying the
banter.
It took only a moment to pick up her riding straps and dragon, but Jer'lin
was waiting impatiently when they arrived.
"Your late," was all he said in a cool tone. She acknowledged his statement
with a nod and started putting her gear on Sienra.
<Jer'lin is waiting for an explination, my rude wastrel,> Sienra said a bit
chidingly as she looked at the fuming trainer.
<^Tell Banta what we were doing then if he really wants to know,^> Dy
replied indifferently. What was the big deal? She had not dallied nor had
she wasted time. If she hadn't been here, why hadn't he just had Banta find
out that they were busy and do something else with his time. She had showed
up after all, so he had nothing to complain about.
<I don't think that will help,> Sienra answered doubtfully. <He's rather
angry with you. Banta says that the lesson will be short today because
there isn't enough light. He asked for us to be here right after lunch, you
know.>
<^Yes, I do know. But Jayleigh told me to do something else. He should be
happy we showed up at all.^>
<Banta says that Jer'lin didn't know you had been assigned to show Fae'Rhee
around and had arranged his day around our appointment with him. Banta
thinks we should have told Jer'lin we weren't going to make it.>
<^What for? All he had to do was ask Banta.^> Now she was really confused.
She had shown up, hadn't she? What was he complaining about?
<But he didn't because he thought you were going to show up. It seems he
waited here for about a half hour.>
<^Why?^> Dy asked trying to make sense out of what Sienra was telling her.
<Because he thought you'd show up,> Sienra was starting to sound a bit
confused herself.
<^Why should I have to appologise just because he didn't think to ask Banta
if I was coming or not?^>
Dyanisa turned towards Jer'lin, only to see disbelieving fury on his face.
Banta must have relayed the conversation to him. Why was he angry?
He seemed to grow angrier by the moment as she looked calmly at him.
"Lesson is cancelled. I'm too angry with you to teach you. Come back
tomorrow right after lunch. And I mean right after lunch." He turned
abruptly on his heal, and stalked off.
Stunned, Dyanisa could only stare after him before exchanging a quizzical
look with Sienra. Shrugging, the two of them headed back to the apartment.
NRPG: FYI: Dyanisa grew up not ever having to worry about schedules, so
timed appointments don't really mean that much to her. She'll try to be
there on time, but doesn't think its a big deal if she can't. If she can
just fit whatever it is some time in her day, than she doesn't think she did
anything wrong. Which is why she'd really confused at Jer'lin's reaction.
Just thought you'd like to know.
