(Nrpg: Brid....How's this for an answer *grin*
-------------------------
Noni strode to Herin's office door and knocked. "Come in," a voice called
from behind the door. Herin looked up from some paperwork on his desk. "Ah,
Noni. What have you to report?"
As she leaned against the doorjamb, Noni motioned for Dyanisa to enter the
office. "This lass knows her medicine. Great herbalist and diagnostician.
Thorough understanding of illnesses and treatments."
Herin smiled. "Very good. And her training?"
"Her mother was her teacher."
Herin gave an approving nod. He turned his glance to Dyanisa. "Please sit
down. Noni, will you stay in case I need a translator?"
"Of course," was Noni's short reply as she took the seat next to Dyanisa.
"Who's your mother, Dyanisa," Herin asked with mild curiousity. "I might
have met her somewhere."
There was a slight pause before the answer. "Lenin, rider Snink."
It took every once of self control Herin had not to show his surprise. He'd
known her mother all right. He put that information aside to mull over later.
"Would you be interested in working here?" he asked, he always could use
another herbalist.
Dyanisa seemed to be conferring with her dragon over it. He waited patiently.
"Think about?" was her slightly hesitant reply.
"Of course, no sense rushing into things. Feel free to come in any time
until you've made your decision." She nodded and stood up. Noni followed
suit and they left.
The moment the door shut, Herin breathed a sigh of amazement. Lenin and
Or'dan's duaghter, returned. That was a juicy bit of gossip if there ever
was one. Despite the paper work on his desk, Herin found himself
remembering one of the biggest scandals that he'd ever lived through.
He couldn't help smiling as he remebered the first time he'd laid eyes on
Lenin. He'd had an instant crush for her, just like every other single man
in the warren. Who could really blame them? Lenin had been gorgeous; honey
blond hair, black eyes, and a body that was the envy of every woman in the
warren. Not to mention that she'd been as sweet personality wise as she looked.
Lenin had been a wonderful healer as well. The only problem that kept her
from advancing farther and becoming Head of the Med Center was her shaking
hands. Instead of fainting at the sight of blood, Lenin had had shaking
hands. She couldn't even give stitches, though she could embroider as well
as anyone else. So she stuck to herbs and became the best at it.
Oh, she'd been considered a fine catch, even if she didn't have much time
with her duties in the Med Center. Then Or'dan had come along. That was a
case of love at first sight if he ever saw one. That had disappointed not
only the boys, but all the girls as well. Or'dan had been considered quite
handsome. Still, nobody with and once of sense had gone after Lenin then,
not when her mate was one of the best fighters in the warren.
Come to think of it, Or'dan had been one of the best at what he did as well.
He'd been given a class of youngsters to teach combat skills to and and been
under consideration for a promotion to wingleader until...
Herin absently chewed his lip, no one had really been sure what had
happened. They had just gone of the deep end.
Lenin had started making wrong diagnosis and screwing up her medicines. She
had even killed somebody, a dragon rider if his memory served him. Lenin had
been suspendd then, forbidden to come to the Med Center until she got a hold
of herself.
At the same time, Or'dan had become reckless, dangerously so. He'd started
beating up on his weaponry student, even killed a boy, crushed his windpipe.
Then he'd flamed a dragon in a wraith fight, killing them. Like Lenin he'd
been suspended from all his duties.
About a week later the pair of them had disappeared from the warren. When
one of the wingleaders inquired about their location, Velara had simply said
they were banished, and had refused to say another word.
That lovely piece of gossip had followed Velara into the grave...or so
they'd thought. Dyanisa was after all their daughter, perhaps she knew what
had happened. Or perhaps not. If she knew something why would she have
mentioned her mother's name and all the gossip that went with it.
Well, he certainly wasn't going to say anyting, not that that would keep
Dyanisa's parentage a secret. It was boundto come out eventually. Herin
felt a pang of pity for Dyanisa. Some people held grudges a long time and
gossip was more often cruel then not. When this got out it would
undoubtably be worse then usual. It wasn't often an old scandal could be
tied to a new person, he was just glad it wasn't him.
