**Sprarroe**
-------------------

"Easy, easy, big girl. You're going to be all right. We just 
have to seal you up. You're going to be fine." Ammie could 
feel someone caressing her head in time with this litany. 

<Noni!> Silence.

Ammie's senses sharpened as her dispair heightened. Her 
first sound to the outside world was a frightened whimper. 
<Where is my rider?>

A few moments later, she felt more caresses and heard the 
same voice. "I know, sweetie. Your rider is hanging on as 
best as she can. The healers are trying their best to keep 
her. You've got to hang on and be strong, too."

Strength was not foremost on Ammie's mind. <My rider, 
please don't die! Noni!>

[[  Do not worry little one,  ]] the brown dragon said as he moved closer to
the injured Ammie, while being careful not to touch her where she had been
injured.  [[  The Human healers are doing everything they can to help your
rider. ]]

<But I can not hear her! Her thoughts do not come into my mind as they
should,> the female dragon said sadly, as she allowed herself to relax
against the brown.

[[ My rider is with her right now, just as I am with you. If there was
anything wrong he would tell me. He thinks highly of your human because she
is a kind woman. ]]

<Will he make sure they help her and care for her?> Ammie asked.

[[ He will. I promise you. ]] Sprarroe told her. [[ He did not leave when
the healer told him too. He wants to be there when she finally wakes so that
she will not be upset. If you are upset when she wakes then your rider will
be upset. So you need to remain calm little one. For your rider. Can you do
this?  ]]

<If it will help my rider. I will try.>

[[ Good, ]] the brown said and then moved his nose to nuzzle her. [[ I will
wait here with you until we hear something. I do not want you to be here
alone. ]]

 "HEY Mudball!!" the dragon healer Timbolo called out after hearing the
browns words. It still amazed him even after all these years that he was
able to hear other dragons when he was healing them. Hearing the brown of
Ja'ks was odd though, because he wasn't injured, but hear him he was.
"Ammie's not alone! Kimith and I are here with her."

[[ That you are. ]] Sprarroe replied with a slight chuckle in his tone.

<I am glad that you are going to stay with me Sprarroe. Just as your human
is staying with my human. >

Timbolo reached up and gave his tiger striped dragon a friendly thump.
<<Well Kimi...looks like you were thrown over for another brown.>>

((No my human, Sprarroe is only doing what his rider would expect towards a
friend. Besides... I'll have just as much chance to win her whenever she
rises to mate.))

<But only if you are worthy of me.> Ammie replied and never noticed that the
two dragons and one human had taken her mind off of her worries for a moment.

**Ja'ks**
------------

He was sitting there in a chair beside her bed staring out the window when
his attentions were brought back to the girl on the bed when he heard a soft
moan.

"Noni!?!" he breathed her name softly. "Noni can you hear me?"

"Wha... Where am I? What happened to me? Where 
is Ammie?"

"Oh dear friend!" he moved closer to the bed and took her hand in his. "A
true dragonrider aren't you? Asking about your dragon first."

"Where is she?" the healer repeated, a bit of panic filling her voice.

"She's all right Noni," he assured her, squeezing her hand. "She's outside
cuddling with Sprarroe. It took him quite a time to get her to calm down too
I'll have you know, but he hasn't left her side for a few hours now. Not
since we brought you both back."

"You've been here the whole time?" Noni asked.

"Yup." he told her, his voice soft and gentle. "I needed to make sure you
were okay? Heron tried to get me to leave earlier, but I told him I wasn't
going to until I know you were going to be all right."

"Ja'ks I need to see her. I need to see Ammie for myself to make sure 
she's fine." 

He saw her free hand moved to pull the covers back and then he reached 
out to stop her.

"No Noni, you're in no condition to leave this bed right now," he 
scolded her mildly, while rearranging the covers.

"But I have to Ja'ks!!" she cried. "Don't you see!! I have to see her, 
you would want to do the same thing if it happened to you and 
Sprarroe!!"

She was right and he knew it. If anything had happened to them, there 
would be no one who couldn't have stopped him for seeing his dragon. 
Could he deny Noni the chance herself?

"Okay... but only for a moment and if you agree to left me carry you
outside," his mouth was close enough to her face that she could feel 
his warm breath on her cheeks. 

"I can walk," she frowned.

"Maybe so... but unless I carry you outside we don't go," he said his 
tone stubborn. "Now you had better make up your mind quickly or someone
might come in to check on you and we'll lose our chance."

"Okay." she finally agreed. "But if I caught one of my patience doing
this...I wouldn't be very happy about it."

"So we won't tell anyone," Ja'ks chuckled as he reach out to pick her 
up and the turned to carry her towards the door. 

It was a good thing it was still night out and the halls of the medical
center were empty. They met no one as they made their way outside. He didn't
set her down even though she asked him to when they came upon 
Ammie and Sprarroe, but instead held her as she reached out to talk to 
her dragon.

Ja'ks gave them a few minutes to talk and then he told her they needed 
to be heading back inside.

"No please Ja'ks... not yet," she pleaded. "I barely got to spend any 
time with her."

"Then I suggest you do your best to get well quickly so that you won't 
have to sneak out of your room here to see her," he told her as he 
carried her back inside...

"Gee Ja'ks... I didn't know you were into mid-night strolls." They heard 
a voice coming from the room across from Noni's saying when the two made 
it back inside. "And you Noni... you should know better than to pull a stunt
like that."

The Beta Wingleader turned towards the voice with Noni still in his 
arms to find Heron standing there glaring at the two of them. 

"Well.... let's hear it?" the elderly healer asked.

"Oh Heron Ja'ks didn't want to take me but I told him I would go on my 
own if he didn't take me to see Ammie," the girl replied. "I had to make
sure she was all right. I just had too!!"

"And is she?" 

"Oh yes," Noni's face light up into a relieved smile. 

"Good," Heron's voice was crisp as he turned to Ja'ks and gave the man 
one of his best *healer* faces. "Then maybe you can put my injured 
healer back into her bed and we can get on with the business of healing 
the healer. Humm!!"
