[DL-D] A waste of good horses.

After Sharees finished caring for Chamelle she thought about going to the
stables. She still had her horse to check on -- and some tack to deliver
that she'd promised. She stopped by the leather shop on her way and picked
up the bridles and harnesses, slinging them over her shoulders.

As she neared the stables she heard the sound of horse in distress -- they
sounded like they had been injured! Sharees quickened her pace, and as she
hurried towards the stable she saw a young girl slipping in the stable door.

"Oh my gods!" Sharees exclaimed when she found two beautiful horses, a
pretty little specked mare, and a pretty bay, that were in agony, trying to
rise on hind legs that had been brutally slashed.

Ysora jumped when she heard the exclamation, and peaked around the corner of
the stall where her own horse was now lying in an expanding pool of blood.
She quickly hid the knife in the bucket of oats, and after trying out a few
different expressions, came out of the stall bawling.

"Miss... Miss!! I... I ... came to check on Whitefoot.... and he's...
ahhhh!!....he's dead," She pitched her wails to be as pathetic as possible.

Sharees turned and saw a young girl, of perhaps 9 or 10, with huge tears
streaming down her pale face. She came over and saw the dead horse -- it's
hind quarters also hamstrung, but it's throat had been slashed!

"Oh.. how .... awful." Sharees gasped in disbelief. "Who could have done
such a thing??"

"I don't know!" The young girl wailed.

"You, wait right here! I heard there is a new beast-healer in the warren."
Sharees told the girl.

<Chamelle? Chamelle? Can you ask Ravindra if her rider is at home?> But
Chamelle was busy napping after her recent meal and didn't answer.

"I'm going to go get her... will you be okay?"

The girl nodded, and Sharees raced out of the stable, leaving behind a
jumble of leather harnesses and bridles. She knew where the new rider lived
and she ran across the short space between the green and the apartments.

"Someyn?" Sharees called as she climbed the last steps to the dragonrider's
apartment.

Someyn was startled to hear her name being called, "Yes?" she said as she
came out.

"I am so glad you are here!" Sharees panted, slightly out of breath.
"There are 3 horses down in the stable -- they were hamstrung! and one is
dead."

"I'll get my things." Someyn said softly.

Sharees noted that the woman had been dressing for the party, and worried
that she would ruin her clothes, yet she knew those horses were suffering
and couldn't wait.

"One of the horses belongs to a young girl that came with the Noble's
caravan today." Sharees stated in conversation as the two women hurried to
the stable.

Someyn didn't say anything, but her jaw tightened as they rushed.

The two horses were still screaming, though one was noticeably less --
probably from shock.

Ysora was still standing just as Sharees had left her, and her tears and
sobs came harder as Sharees turned to comfort the young girl.

"I'll have to put them down." Someyn sighed and she readied her instruments
to put the two horses out of their misery.

"Do you know whose horses they were?" Sharees asked the young girl.

"They belonged to my aunts, Fisra and Fedora." Ysora sobbed. Sharees
caught Someyn's dark brown eyes glaring at them.. was it just anger over
the waste of good horses? Sharees wondered.
