[Day 13, late afternoon,
wilderness magic bubble]
That Lynx was worried was an understatement. She had be in the cave now for more
than 36 hours, and Turi was still feverish. She tried to help her rider as much
as she could, brining water and fresh meat. Unfortunately, these offerings had
gone untouched. And Turi just kept getting worse.
Turi had gotten colds and minor sicknesses before during the many years she and
lynx had been together, but there was something about this particular illness
that had Lynx so worried. Turi lay in the bed of animal skins tossing and
turning, and covered in a sweat.
The spotted dragon decided it was time to try and find some help.
She knew of only one other place where dragons and humans lived, and she also
knew that she would find no help there. But there was the chance she could
steal some medicine, or perhaps a healer that she could threaten to eat if he
didn't help Turi. She waited for the signs of the magic shifts that she needed,
and teleported.
[Day 13, a short while later, Osran Warren]
Lynx had chosen a spot off away from the main thorough of Osran, it was a place
from her memory that she and Turi came to be alone before their outcasting.
Peering thru the heavy brush she managed to get a good look at some dragons
landing at the warren.
*** snip from Barb’s post ***
"What Liam doesn't know won't hurt him," Palamer snorted, as he
watched the women being carried off by Derek's men. "And besides which,
we'll be back before he even knows we're gone. The next shift in the magic
happens in one hour. Why do you think I picked this time for us to bring them
back?"
*** end snip ***
Lynx didn't know where the men had come from, or where they were going back. But
she had an idea. When she was young and still in the warren, she could just
barely remember, there had been talk of a place with other dragon riders .
Someplace that Osran riders feared and hated. Just the place she needed.
But how to follow? She couldn't trust those warren bound dragons anymore than
she could the riders. Again worry for her rider forced her to make a decision
that she might not normally make. She would wait for these riders to leave, and
follow by catching the broadcast of the image they sent to each other.
She waited about 10 mins after the other riders had left. She didn't want to arrive
at the same time as the Osran riders, as that would be disaster. As she
teleported, she felt a strange queasiness. Apparently she had only just managed
the magic shift.
[Day 13, Later-early evening, Daere Warren]
She appeared over the land around Daere warren. The feel of magic was strong here. Nothing
like Osran or her island bubble. Even from as high up as she was she couldn't
feel the end of the magic. It was slightly disconcerting, but the dull throb
that was her partner edged her onward.
Below her was a warren. That was simple enough to notice. She landed and took
off at full speed, dashing around from cave to cave looking for something that
resembled a healer or hospital. It was definatly something the people of the
warren were not expecting.
Much like the animals she had hunted, they scattered as she appeared out of nowhere
poking her head into a cave here and there. She did this without flying, much
like she had learned to stalk in the lower brush and dodge trees as she
followed a fleeing herd of deer. And much smoother than any warren dragon she
had met or known without using its wings.
She weaved in and out of the lattice work of cave structures and pathways, people
yelling in startlement, and dropping all sorts of packages when she roughly
pushed them out of the way. She also met a few dragons, with a snarl and a
quick warning to get out of her way. Its not surprising that they seemed
confused, but obeyed.
She managed to find a place that looked like the healing rooms that Osran used.
Snatching the first human she found in her teeth, she growled, and then
projected in the mind of the human, <I NEED A HEALER, ~NOW!~>
*****
Tag anyone wanting to be grabbed, other than barb, there is one other who knows
what's going on, so feel free. Just remember, Lynx is like a panicked mother
grizzly who's cub is lost. You, DO NOT, want to get in her way, because she
will strike out if provoked.
Sincerely,
Jason Carnahan,
AKA: Turi and Lynx
