Z'charai
--------

(NRPG: A quiet cove near Jasra Warren)

Eolanth rolled over onto his back, nearly submerging Z'charai who had been
sunning on his dragon's ridges. With a *sploosh* he fell off, landing
face first in the warm water of the cove.

Z'charai came up spluttering, "Hey! Warn me when you do that!" He coughed
up a lungful of water, face scrunched up with discomfort.

<I always do that. You need to learn how to anticipate my every move.>
Eolath yawned and splayed out more in the water, floating languidly with
his belly in the air.

The young man snorted, "I should know better than to ask you to be
considerate."

<Why should I be considerate? You are not female and are not rising.>

Zach snorted again, rolling his eyes. He knew Eolanth well enough to know
that, if need be, he could be perfectly considerate. Sarcasm was one of
his dragon's better talents.

<The sun burns bright today. It is good basking weather.>

Z'charai got a foothold on Eolanth's purple shoulder, using the dragon's
forleg to climb his way up onto the paler lavendar of the large belly,
"Yes, of course it's good basking weather. You always say it's good
basking weather. That's because you love to bask."

<This is true.> An amused rumble came from Eolanth's throat.

The blonde man stretched his long body out, folding his arms behind his
head and smiling contentedly, "Ahhh... this is the life. What a way to
spend a day off."

They floated that way for a while, dragon and rider. Partners in work and
in play.... and in basking, it seemed. Z'charai smiled as the waves
lapped at the opalescent purple hide, making music of their own.

"We should go visit my parents soon. It's been a while, hasn't it?"
Z'charai commented.

<Yes, it has. Will your mother help you oil me again?>

"I dunno. Maybe. We'll have to ask her." Zach rolled over onto his
stomach and stretched out that way, "She seemed to have fun helping,
didn't she?"

<She loves you.> Eolanth stated bluntly <She does a better job of oiling
than you do, anyway. You always spread it too thin.>

Z'charai snorted, "I do not."

Eolanth was forever complaining, but Z'charai knew better. Dragon empathy
was a good gift to have. It was also pretty obvious when his large purple
partner nearly purred with pride after he was oiled.

A distant bugling cry of a dragon shook Z'charai out of his reverie. He
looked to the sky, shading his eyes from the glaring sun to see a crimson
form just appearing over the cliff face. He noted the position of the sun
and decided it was just past dinner time.

"I wonder what G'mit wants?" the blonde rider commented.

<He wants you to come back to the Warren.>

Zach blinked at his dragon and looked down towards the huge green eyes,
"Exactly how long have you been speaking with Starion?"

<A while now. They've been calling us for dinner.>

"And why, praytell, did you not inform me that they were asking for us?"
Z'charai glared at Eolanth, sliding off his belly and into the water. He
swam until he could stand, then glanced over his shoulder at the purple
form now turning over lazily in the water.

<We were basking. It is our day off. Basking is more fun than dinner.>

Z'charai rolled his eyes and turned to make his way onto shore to greet
G'mit as Starion landed on the beach.

"Y'know, I don't know why I Searched you those five years ago. You never
listen. You never come when I call," G'mit grinned good-naturedly at his
friend, running a hand over his sheared head.

"Sorry. Eo didn't want to leave, so he didn't tell me you were looking
for me," Z'charai apologized, looking somewhat embarassed.

"Well, you should have been at dinner! They introduced the new
Warrenlady, and she is quite worthy, if I do say so myself," G'mit folded
his arms akimbo across his chest, grinning like a dragon who'd won his
first flight.

Z'charai frowned, "We've a new Warrenlady? Already?" He sighed sadly, his
thoughts going to another Warrenlady recently passed from this life.

His sadness did not go unnoticed. G'mit grasped his shoulder, giving it a
consoling squeeze.

"I know you miss her, Zach. We all do."

Z'charai nodded, casting his gaze skyward, looking for consolation in the
clouds. A movement atop a far off cliff to the right caught his eye and
he blinked, squinting in an attempt to get a better glimpse.

"Hey, there's someone up there," He pointed, G'mit following his gaze to
the cliff high above.

"Is that dragon blue? The other is a coppery color, I'm pretty sure..."
Z'charai took a step forward, as if it would assure him a better view.

"The copper queen would belong to our new Warrenlady. The other isn't
familiar..." G'mit shrugged, turning to Starion who was rumbling
conversationally with Eolanth.

<Alicynth is our new queen, my rider. That unfamiliar blue is called
Jismin. She is a Sea-breather.>

"A Sea-breather?" Z'charai looked at Eolanth curiously. "Then I wonder
what she is doing up here?"

G'mit nudged his friend in the ribs, "C'mon, let's go back to the Warren.
I haven't eaten yet because I was looking for you. We can find out about
the new Warrenlady and the others there, I'm sure."

"I'm sure," Z'charai nodded. As he pulled his trousers on, then his shirt
over his head, he spared another glance at the figures on the cliff.

<I wonder how Jasra is going to fare with a new Warrenlady. One from
another Realm. A whole different world!> Z'charai commented to his
dragon.

<Don't worry. I'll catch her when she rises.> Eolanth snorted
confidently.

Z'charai looked at his dragon, with his haughty posture and look of
arrogant confidence and couldn't help but laugh, "Sure you will, Eo! Sure
you will!"

With that, he mounted up and they followed G'mit and Starion back to Jasra
Warren.
