[DL-J] Loss of Purpose

When he got outside, he stopped. Staring at the stars, he saw that it
was already night at the warren. He didn't realize that his meeting
with Wade had been that long.

A scream pierced the silence and was cut short in an unnatural way.
Peren reeled and ran back into see Wade crumpled in a heap on the floor.
He rushed to her and attempted to see if she was hurt. Gently lifting
her face toward him he found that it was wet with tears.

ãWade? What happened?ä he gently questioned.

ãYou left. Darkness...... following you too far.... darkness...ä she
whispered ãI remember....death.ä

ãYes, you saved me from death and it nearly killed you,ä he said.

ãWhen you left just now it brought back the memory, the darkness...it
was as if death was coming back for me,ä she paused, ãAnd there is
nothing.ä He waited but she did not continue.

ãWhat do you mean Îthere is nothingâ?ä he prompted.

ãDeath drags you into nothingness. It would have taken me and ended
everything. There is nothing after this life,ä she said regretfully.

Looking at her for a long while he wondered if what she said was true.
Feeling like he should say something to comfort her but was at a loss
for words. He did not remember much about the darkest moments, when
death reached for him. He remembered her calling him back and the pain
but little more. Perhaps he too was suppressing his memories.

Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting form you now,
This much let me avow-
You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have been a dream;
