Day 18
Mid Morning

Syngnath was delighted to show Jasra to his new friend, Leviathan.  While
the two seadragons flew over the warren, Sy explained about their society.

[So, the dragons here all have human riders?] Leviathan confirmed.

<Yes, well, except Tanami, she's a waterbreather, like your rider.>

[And all the dragons live here.... together?]

<Yes, you seem... surprised by that?> Sy noted.

[I am.  Seadragons don't live in... groups.  At least not wilders.  Yet,
here you and the other seadragons live together in harmony and with the
land-dragons -- and humans!]

Syngnath pondered that a moment.  He knew that the un-joined seadragons that
he'd encountered had been rather unfriendly creatures -- in fact the queen
that was Khamorray's dam had been down right mean.

<Why do you say that about humans?  All the humans I've met have been nice.>

[Nice?  Humans?  Well, let me tell you... the ones that float in the wooden
islands...]

<Ships, my rider calls them.>

[Ships... okay the ones that float in the ships... they hunt seadragon!
They'd rather see one dead and cut up for dinner than see one alive!]

Syngnath gasped, <Hunt?  They kill seadragons?>

[Well, wild seadragons would just as soon eat those pesky humans, too.]

<No!>

[Believe me, that's why Jasra... just seemed to us it had to be a myth!  It
couldn't be real!  Here, you have joined humans as well as those that are
not joined to dragons -- ones that don't hunt dragons!  And the dragons are
joined to humans... ]

<And waterbreathers!>  Sy grinned.  <Yes, I see now why you thought we must
be a myth.  But we aren't.  Really!  It is a wonderful place to live... will
you stay?

Syngnath and Leviathan ended their tour out in the bay.  The water was
beautiful and inviting, and the two seadragons dove through the foam into
the cool depths beneath.   As they surfaced again, they caught sight of
something incredibly big and red disturbing the water not too far away.

[What is.. that?] Leviathan asked.

<Why, I think it is ... yes, it is.  Menia!> Sy called out in greeting.
<Oh!  And Khamorray!  Come over and say hi to my new friend!  This is
Leviathan!  He's got a waterbreather for a rider!>

Late Afternoon

<Iris?>  Syngnath ventured into the hatching cavern.  <Are you sleeping?>

{Not any more!}  Iris grumbled, then snapped fully awake.  {Did you finally
remember to bring me something to eat?}

<No... I thought Selene?>

Iris hissed, {Selene!!  You trusted Selene to bring me food?!  Selene, of
all dragons!!!}  She continued, grumbling to herself unintelligibly.

<Yes, right... sorry.>  Syngnath began to back away, then he felt a nudge at
the corner of his mind... the egg!  <Iris, you should get the egg into the
water....>

{What?  My egg?  In water?  Whatever for!?}

<So it can hatch...> Sy began.

{Don't you tell me how to hatch my egg!  It's staying right here in the
hatching cavern!}

<But, Iris...>

{Out!  You get out!  And don't return!  Not unless you are bringing me
something to eat!}  Iris fumed.

Syngnath backed out away from the angry mother, making one last effort,
<It's a seadragon, Iris, it needs to hatch in the sea....> before he
scrambled out of the cavern.
