***** Rescue of Kale-Barr Caravan*****

*Minty.... Malekith says to organise some riders. There's a Wraith attack
on a caravan just outside Seign, I have an image from Kaylin'sha...*

Kirimith's call interrupted Minty's talk with her father, and Minty was not
displeased. It had been so hard to explain to Guy how she felt about David,
and he had not been best pleased that David was also a dragonrider.....

"I'm sorry Da, I have to go. There's an attack....." Minty hurriedly
explained "I'll see you again soon..."

"Sooner than you think girl. David is his name, right? You'll do as I
say........" but Minty didn't give Guy time to finish. Mounting Kirimith
she started organising the rescue party....

*Who is free Kiri? How many Wraiths do we face?....* she was quick but
thorough *Try Salinda, K'shan and V'rdeen. Tell them to meet us at the
coal bins as soon as maybe!* She climbed into her saddle and gave the
signal to fly

*Salinda and K'shan say they will be there. V'rdeen was very rude and says
he will not take orders from you. There are six others who will come.....*

*OK Kiri... go!*

<....>

The battle was short, the Wraiths were no match for the dragons. The one
injured boy was taken back to the Warren by David . The other dragon pairs
searched to make sure there were no other Wraiths, and then were left to
escort the remainder of the Kale-Barr caravan to the Warren.

*****Hatching Day*****

Time flew for Minty. There was always so much to do around the Warren.
Since that first visit with Wynn to the records room she had taken every
opportunity to study the old books and scrolls. Life in the Warren was so
different from that of the Landbound, and she was beginning to realise just
how much hard work there was in maintaining a Warren. The Landbound thought
it so easy, just ride your dragon, eat, sleep and play......

*You were Landbound not long ago Minty. How did you feel about Dragons
then?* Kirimith asked, curiosity winning over sleep

*I know that sweeting. But I never realised just how much work was
involved. No wonder the system of tithing was brought in... there was just
no way the Warren could find the time to grow it's own supplies, and that's
without the lack of cultivated land around a Warren......*

Suddenly the air was full of excited shouts and bugles....

"Kiri? It can't be so soon......*

*They're hatching Minty!* Kirimith's shrill excitement touched Minty
*They're hatching! Come on or we'll miss it.....*

****************

Minty sat on a ledge in the Hatching Cavern. This time she knew what all
the fuss was about. She thought back.....

*Do you remember our Joining Kiri? Such a short time ago.....* Minty
asked, tears evident in her tone *I didn't know who it was called me!*

*And I knew you were there somewhere, I just needed you to come to me!*
Kirimith said, emotionally *I didn't think you would come...... Oooooo!
Look.... Kalron has Joined!*

Kirimith added her voice to the chorus of dragon cheers echoing round the
cave.

*I'm glad you came to me that day Minty!* Kirimith said in a small voice
*I remember how badly I needed to find you. Just like with Mukale and
Tarranx just now........ Suppose you hadn't been there....*

*I -was- there! I'll always be there precious love....* Minty replied

As each new hatchling found its soulmate, Minty and Kirimith cheered, and
cheered and cheered! When the last was done, tears streaming down her face
Minty hugged her dragon.....
