Scene: The battle over Marrid


The air was full of flaming dragons.... and the unearthly keening of
grieving dragons!  Minty clamped down hard on her own emotions, Kirimith was
already upset enough at the deaths!


*Concentrate Kiri.... we have a job to do!  I know you feel for their
passing, but I don't want your name added to the fallen.  There, to the
right......*


Kirimith banked sharply, and flamed a Wraith to dust, then returned to her
position.  


*I cannot help it, Minty.....*  mixed with the grief was rage.  *So many are
gone....*


*I know sweeting.  But concentrate on revenging them..... grieve for them
later!*  Minty sent, as she directed Kirimith to keep station with Malekith.
*We're needed....*


Kirimith's grief didn't lessen, but she pushed it aside and did her job
well.  She followed the  flaming run, burning her share of Wraiths, keeping
track of Malekith's orders, making sure other riders were not caught
unprepared....


*Yenal is here, Minty....*  Kirimith  announced  *He controls these creatures!*


Minty shuddered to feel that any man could willingly have contact with
Wraiths.  *I don't think it will be as easy to distract him this time,
Kiri.*  Minty sent, adding a mental grin, managing for a second to lighten
Kiri's mood.


*A Queen!*  Kirimith sent, shocked  * A Queen flies in battle!*


*Who? Where?*  Then she spotted the metallic blue colouring of Keldarra's
newest Queen.  *A hatchling Queen.....*


*Wynn wants you, Minty*  Kiri said as she flew alongside Malekith.


"Get David and two others, and get to Carie and Fiera."  Wynn shouted
"Damn, what is she thinking.  One Queen has already died today, how can she
even think to risk another.  Go!"  Minty nodded sharply.


*Speak to Kaylin and Kyranth and Tanith.  Have them surround her......*
Minty urged Kirimith towards the young Queen  *Tell Fiera she must return to
Keldarra immediately!*


Minty brought Kirimith up on Fiera's right,  David on her left, and the
others above and below the dragon/rider pair.


*Fiera refuses to return.*  Kirimith said in disgust  *She says she is
having fun!*


"Fun?!"  Minty shouted at Carie  "Take your Queen back to Keldarra before
she is hurt.  Queens do not fly battle......"


Carie shook her head defiantly  "I can fight just as well as you can....."
she called back, urging Fiera to drop downwards and trying to slip out of
the protective pattern the others had set up.


"You take four riders from the battle to protect your Queen.  Four less to
defend Marrid......"  Minty tried reasoning, and was rewarded with a look of
shock.  Obviously the girl hadn't thought of it quite like that.....


*Fiera says they will go......Can we return to burning?*  Kirimith asked eagerly


*No!  We must make sure she does go back.... Tell David and the others, they
can go as soon as we teleport.  Have Fiera teleport to the Warren Green at
Keldarra.... Tell her we are going with her just in case.  And warn Malekith
we will be gone a while...*


*Done!  Malekith says  'Hurry back' we are needed.  David says to say he
loves you and be careful.  Fiera is ready.....*


*Go!*  Minty said, holding the image of Keldarra's green firmly in mind.  


Seconds later they were landing beside Carie and Fiera, Minty ready to have
words.  She wasn't needed!  Evelle and Alicynth were waiting for the errant
pair.....  With a wince of sympathy Minty took off again..... she wouldn't
want to be on the receiving end of that motherly scolding!


Directing Kiri to get a position fix from Malekith the pair 'ported back to
Marrid, and the battle.......
