(dl)m/k - Mourning

SKy knew there was going to be a council meeting. She knew that Marrid
had been damaged so bad that they were considering closing it. She had
gotten the message that had been passed around about voluteering to move
to Marrid. She was certainly going to go. There was nothing really for
her here at Keldarra. She would miss her mornings with Sheltie, cooking
breakfast and doing 'girl-talk'. She'd learned a lot about things that
her father hadn't ever been able to tell her and she thanked the older
woman for her experience and advice.

But she also didn't want to move into a place where everyone was haunted
by the tragedy and pain of so many dead. She thought maybe she could do
something about it, or at least try.

She made an appointment with Christalla. The Dragonlsdy was very busy
and she would only have a few moments with her. She hoped that would be
enough time.

Thain landed on the ledge outside Christalla's office. He was gleaming
with a fresh oil rubbing and his scales were blindingly bright orange
today, the red showing up more under the brilliant blue sky today.

Sky had dressed in her best, a deep blue robe, off the shoulder with tiny
capped sleeves. The blue had been highlighted with rich gold embroidary
work at the hem, neckline, and base of the short sleeves. It was a
simple pattern of crenalation, like the top of the castle walls at
Suderan's Keep. The colors set of her tan complexion and blue eyes, and
she knew that the outfit made her look more like a grown up.

She waited politely until Christalla called her in, then swept into the
office with her best lady-like manner.

"Sky, I haven't really seen you since the hatching. How are you?"
Though the tiny lady was polite, Sky could tell she was in a hurry.

"I'm fine. Sarathain takes good care of me. Thank you for asking."
Sky paused then plunged in.

"I wanted to make a proposal to you as Dragonlady. I want you to know
that I'm more than willing to go and help rebuild Marrid Warren, but I'm
a little concerned with the atmosphere there. So many of the riders
there are grieving for lost friends and loved ones. And living there
among the apartments and things of the dead must be driving some of them
into depression. I was thinking that we could hold a ceremony of sorts.
We need to get rid of all the reminders of who can't be with us anymore.
We're going to have to clean out some of the apartments, and what are we
going to do with all that stuff? I know that getting rid of it would be
a big waste, but what if we gathered all the stuff except personal things
that people actually want to keep and arranged to trade it or sell it.
Just most of the stuff. That would earn money for rebuilding and move
the reminders out of constant sight."

"And I was thinking that a ceremony of mourning would help the people
left get over their grief. We could have everyone bring the things they
don't want from the dead riders and maybe have them say something good
about that person or maybe how they felt about that person. Right now no
one is talking about their grief, and that isn't good. Maybe if each person
could get together and realize that this has effected everyone, it might
help them to start getting over their loss."

Right now this warren kinda sounds like a depressing place to move to.
