(DL-M/K) Backpost: Kyven speaks to the Council of Warrens

NRPG: Been planning on doing this, but have been waiting for Susan.
Since she told me to go ahead, here goes.

<Kaeryth says Christalla says you may go in now,> Aethnod spoke in his mind.

Kyven entered the hall, feeling nervous. He had never before addressed a
council meeting, and what he wished to propose was going to be greeted
with decidedly mixed feelings.

"Now that we have the situation with Marrid well in hand, there is one
other item on the agenda. This is Kyven, head of our Medical Center at
Keldarra. He has a proposal to make to the Council," Christalla
introduced him. "Please know that what he proposes has neither my
approval nor disapproval at this point. I am waiting to see the response
of the Council."

Heads turned to regard him as he stood before them all. His stomach
fluttered and he began to wonder whether this had been such a good idea
after all. He had hoped that Christalla would present the idea, but she
had decided to let him do so, so that she could remain neutral.

"As the DragonLady has said, my name is Kyven and I am head of the Medical
Center here. I've had ample opportunity to talk to many riders after
wraith combats lately, and I've observed a disturbing trend. More and
more, riders are reporting different tactics being used by the wraiths--
disturbing signs of intelligence-- flanking manuevers, teamwork, and, in
this last battle, attacking saddle straps instead of riders or dragon.
That last manuever is disturbingly effective-- even if the rider doesn't
fall, you've still taken a combatant out, since the rider has to return to
the warren and resaddle. Unfortunately, in the last battle, we had
several riders who did fall and were killed or severely injured-- not just
Keldarra riders, but ones from the other warrens involved."

There were concerned mutters at this, and Kyven thought of Ree, so still
in the Medical Center.

"It's become apparent that we don't know nearly as much about the wraiths
as we thought we did. Rule number one in the healing craft is to know
what injury or disease you're treating, or you may do more harm than
good. Rule number one of good tactics, or so my mate has told me, is to
know your enemy-- know his strengths and weaknesses and watch for them.
The wraiths are becoming a greater and greater enemy and we need to
better understand their strengths and weaknesses.

"What I propose to do is an in-depth study of the wraiths and how they
have fought in the past and how they are fighting now. I would like to be
able to interview any dragonriders at your warrens who have fought wraiths
in the past, especially if they are still active combat riders and have
faced wraiths recently. I would also like to raid all of your libraries
for writings on the wraiths. And last, but not least, I would like to ask
that all the warrens make a concerted effort to capture, alive, some
wraiths for study."

In concert, the people in the Great Hall reacted, with a sound so
overwhelming as to be deafening.

Respectfully submitted,
 Lynette R. F. Cowper
  Kyven

NRPG: Those of you who have been playing warrenladies as NPCs (or PCs,
Judi), please feel free to react. I don't want to play all the parts.
Ophelia, of course, is mine, but I'll let someone else go first.

Josh, dunno if you read my earlier Keldarra post where Kyven proposed
this to Christalla. If not, great minds think alike, I guess.
