(DL) How do you solve a problem like V'rdeen ...

Scene: Warrenlady's office

"Something wrong, Evelle?" Wynn asked. He knew immediately
upon touching her. The closeness they shared could not be disguised.
He doubted that either would ever be able to hide anything from the other.

"I'm afraid so, love. Please look at this. It's about V'rdeen."

She handed him a pad, upon which she had written pages of
information documenting the various talks she had had recently. His
face became grim, his heart to stone. "You too, Evelle?" He asked.

"Yes, but mine was nothing. He only made threats. But I'm afraid
he might try something at Alicynth's next mating flight ... drugging
Malekith, or something."

Wynn's face darkened further. Just threats? To thrust a sword
through V'rdeen was the kindest of thoughts that ran through Wynn's mind
at that moment. If even one of these charges were true, Wynn would want
to deal with V'rdeen. But to threaten the Warrenlady, to threaten his
Evelle. He could not stand for it. Only Evelle's hand on his own kept
him from charging out of her office right then. "Do you see the
pattern?" She asked, looking up into his pale blue eyes.

He nodded after a moment. The pattern was quite clear. "The
women he's been molesting are all either close to or intimate with
someone born landbound. Me, Almiron, David ..."

"Yes," she agreed, "except for Briana, but she's landbound herself
and thereby up for grabs, I'm afraid. It also seems to be further evidence
that he was behind the trashing of Almiron's room. The question is, what
do we do now. His behavior is NOT acceptable. Do we tell Christalla?
Do I have a talk with him? Do you? All three? I want to be careful, love.
I don't want him squirming out of this by saying we have no proof against
him. Mostly, I want your advice."

His advice? He was a bit surprised at that, even he had fallen
under the spell that the Warrenlady knew everything. It wasn't true, of
course, she was as human as any of them. "I will talk to V'rdeen." He
felt her hand clench his own. "Do not worry, unless he provokes a
fight, it will remain at words. But I will not let these accustations
go without a response. Most of these women are of my Wing, and I will
not let this happen to them."

"Please Wynn, be careful." Evelle said after a moment of
silence between them. She felt he was right.

"For now, that is all we will do. There is a pattern, but we
need to hear V'rdeen's side of things before we can think to act. If
such behaviour continues, or worse accusations come about, then further
measures will be taken." Wynn still seethed, but he had to be fair and
give V'rdeen a reasonable doubt. Wynn didn't personally like the man,
but this was the first he heard of any serious problems with him.

He kissed her lightly, with the soft caring he had for her, and
both felt more reassured. "Love, I want you to tell me if he ever does
this to you again. You are far too precious to me to let this kind of
thing happen to you."

Evelle hugged him tightly. "I will, my love. I just thought it
too minor to worry over."

"Nothing that upsets you is minor." He stroked her cheek
lovingly. "I will see you at supper, if not earlier."

Evelle nodded, and watched as Wynn turned and left.

Scene: Outside the Main Hall

"V'rdeen! Wait!" Wynn called, catching sight of the large man
striding purposely across the main path.

V'rdeen stopped and turned, wondering what the Wingleader
wanted. It's not as if they ever talked outside of practice before.
"Yeah, what is it?" He asked, slightly suspicious.

Wynn stopped before him, his eyes coldly staring at the young
man. Wynn took a breath before speaking. "There have been reports of
you harrassing other riders, V'rdeen. I want it stopped ... now." He
said coldly.

        "I don't know where you've been hearing that. I haven't done a
thing." The slightly younger man responded bitterly.

Wynn stepped forward, grabbing V'rdeen by the vest he wore and
pulled him close, cold eyes staring into cold eyes. "More voices have
said you have. And more voices that I believe than yours. You may
fight well on the battlefield, better than most, even. But there is
much more to being a Dragonrider than just combat. If you throw
everyone off in this Wing, we're all as good as dead. I will not allow
that, and I would rather have one person hating me than to lose those in
my Wing."

V'rdeen pulled himself away from Wynn. "Look, I only take
orders from you because they made you Wingleader, for nothing more than
sleeping around with that scamp of a Queenrider."

Wynn's eyes narrowed. "It is Evelle's choice whom to love, not
yours." He hissed. "I warn you now. I don't want to hear a single
person telling me about what has been going on. Even a peep, and I'll
give you a reason never to think of being with a woman again."

Dust filled the air as a strong breeze stirred up the dirt
ground. Landing mere feet behind V'rdeen was a looming purple shape,
the dragon Quezarth. Wynn glanced at the dragon, then back to it's
rider, unperterbed. "Do not test me, V'rdeen. You will lose." Wynn
growled, then turned crisply, leaving V'rdeen staring hatedly after him.

NRPG: Just wanted to explore this a little bit more. Didn't plan on this
post, but it just wanted to come out, so here it is :) I figure this
might cower V'rdeen a little, at least not be so blatantly obvious about
his bullying, which will explain why he's been quiet the past couple of
months. How long this will last I do not know. Wynn is just itching to
take him down, though ... someone want to give him an excuse? :)
