[Day after the attack on Michel]

K'wen stepped into the Medical Center, carrying the tehdakh board under his arm.

"Why, hello, K'wen," the nurse greeted.

"Hesti, you're looking lovely as ever."

"Charmer! What brings you here?"

K'wen smiled, indicating the game board. "I was just coming to visit my
new flightleader. I got moved..." he leaned forward conspiratorially, "...
because they didn't want his ex-mate in the flight with him, just in case,
you understand."

She nodded.

"Anyhow, back the last time he was in here, I brought him his board and
watched a bit as he demonstrated to Michel and thought I'd see if I
couldn't get him to teach me. Sort of a way to keep his mind off things
and all."

Hesti nodded and smiled. "I'm sure that will help, but M'tan's in there
with him right now... and I think Aleta, too."

K'wen's eyebrows shot up. "You're kidding. Both of them?"

"I think so."

"Ah, well, perhaps I oughtn't interrupt. Things could be... well, you
know, with everything that's gone on..."

"Mmmm... yes, you may be right."

"I'll just go in Mom's office for a bit, if you don't mind..."

"Oh, no, that's fine," the nurse agreed.

He stepped into his mother's office and shut the door. He stood for a
second, listening at the door till he heard the nurse move away some, then
approached the medicine cabinet. He'd studied a bit of medicine a bit
before he'd joined. Painkiller... Antibiotic... Local anesthetic... Burn
ointment... He quickly transferred them to vials in the pouch he carried
with the game board. A quick trip to the supply cabinet followed for some
"catgut". That should do it. And it wasn't enough of anything to really
be notable.

There was a knock at the door. "K'wen, I think they've left, if you wanted
to visit Almiron."

He opened the door. "Thank you, Hesti."

He headed for Almiron's room. The warrenless rider was looking rather
washed out.

"Almiron?"

The foreigner looked up and smiled weakly.

"Hi, I brought you your tehdahkh board. I thought maybe you could teach me
how to play, give you something to do and all."

"Thank you, K'wen. I would be happy to teach you." The warrenless rider
struggled to sit up.

"Here, let me help you."

K'wen helped Almiron to sit and smiled as he pulled up a table and laid out
the board and pieces according to Almiron's instructions.

He was just about done when his eyes got distant. "Damn! Look, I've got to
go. Asphenel just called me."

"It is okay. Perhap later."

K'wen stood, leaving the board. "Oh, I'll definitely be back."

<I didn't call you,> Asphenel commented as he left the Medical Center.

<It was a convenient excuse,> K'wen explained, heading to the apartment of
a certain injured dragonrider and his friend. He was just sorry it had
taken so long to get stitches into that arm and some ointment on the burns,
but it couldn't be helped. But, he fully intended to be back to visit
Almiron. It was always best to know your enemies...

Respectfully submitted,

  Almiron and Darshan
   using K'wen for now
