(DL) David Swordson.....
"David!" The door swung open and smashed against the wall. "Git y'self
up boy!"
David jumped out of bed and tumbled to the floor. "What?!?!" He managed
through ask in a sleepy daze. Looking around towards the door, he saw
Ames Blademaster, his father, standing there with a giant smile across
his face.
"I have a surprise for ye son, unless ye wish to sleep all day an' miss
the hatchin?" He said sarcasticly. David's mouth dropped open in unbelief.
"Hatchin? What do ye mean?" He sat up and covered himself with a blanket.
"I have been picked t' be the emissary from our Guild t' witness the
hatchin up in Keldarra Warren." Ames explained. "And I want to know if
ye would like to come?"
"God, does a forge bend steel?! Aye, I would like t' go!" David said
excitedly. "D'we get t' ride a dragon?"
"Aye." Ames nodded, "But ye be curtious t' the DragonRider. It is ye
first time." He walked from the room, but before he shut the door, he
added, "Be ready in ten minutes. Dragonfolk are not t' be kept waitin."
The door shut loudly behind him.
David leaped from where he was sitting and laid out the clothes he
needed for the trip. It was only to be for a few days, so he packed one other
uniform than the one he was to wear. Pulling out a gray tunic and dark
grey pants, he began to dress.
His body was lean and toned, muscles firm from working a forge and
practicing with a sword. Long blond hair spilled down his back,
accenting his bright green eyes that seemed to know more than what they
were letting on. Slightly tanned skin gave him a healty color, one
associated with the youth he was.
After his shirt and pants were donned, David clipped a thick black
leather belt around his waist and began to lace up his boots. Coming up
to his knees, he made sure to tuck his pants into them, yet leaving enough
out to give a baggy freedom of movement. Looking into a mirror, David
inspected his clothing.
The uniform was the same every Intermediary of the Guild of
Swords wore, and David took pride in it. Not everyone could reach as far
as he had by seventeen: Himself the youngest in his classes. Everything
was gray and black, even the leather strip he used to tie his hair back
from his face. Taking his swords from where they hung by the bed, David
clipped them to his belt side by side, and left the room.
Flying high above Ralengard, the wind whipped past Davids face, a
broad grin firmly in place. The brown dragons scales glistened like
copper in the sunlight. The feeling of flying exhilerated him, and he
looked down towards the capital city. Some fires were burning near the
ground, and groups of dragons circled in the air. David asked Gen'an,
the Rider, what was going on.
"It's a wraith attack on the city." He answered, concern showing
on his face for his kin in the midst of battle. When David looked back
down and made a worried look, Gen'an managed a smile.
"Don't worry about them. We can hold them back."
Ames put a hand on David's shoulder, "They know what they're doin
son." He said with smile. David nodded, and looked towards Kalderra
warren just ahead.
The huge structure loomed over the city, built straight into the
mountain side. It was a wonder itself. Wide platforms jetted out from the
rocks, and people were seen lugging heaps of coal and supplies. It was
said that it could house over five-hundred man and women, not counting
the dragons.
"Is that where we land?" David asked politely.
"Yes, so hold on tightly as we approach." Gen'an answered.
After they landed, Ames and David thanked Gen'an for his
assistance, and watched him take off again to help down in the city.
"Ames Blademaster?" A vioce said from behind.
Ames and David turned to see two men, both clothed in what looked
like official garb, heading down a flight of stairs towards them. Ames
nodded and answered, "Aye, I am Ames. BladeMaster of the Guild of
Swords, one of the Ruleing Council."
The officals nodded.
"I am Ky'shei, and this is Couldin." One said, while jestureing
to the other. They made formal bows. Ames and David did the same.
"This is my son and gaurd, David Swordson." Ames said while
introduceing him. "He is an Intermediary in our Guild."
Ky'shei and Couldin nodded, and Couldin extended his hand
outward. "Welcome to Keldarra Warren. May your stay be peaceful and
safe."
"Thank ye kindly. Will ye show us t' our rooms?" Ames said as
he lifted his pack. Ky'shei nodded and turned to lead the way. David
picked up his own bag, and walked alongside Ames.
The size of the Warrens caverns amazed David as they travelled
deeper into the mountains. After climbing a few flights of stairs, they
came to the guest quarters.
"Feel free to journey around the Warren. If you have any
questions, ask whoever you see. Anyone will be glad to help." Ky'shei
said. "For now, if you do not mind, we must leave you. There are duties
to be seen to."
"That tis' no problem, sirs. Thank ye for yer hospitality."
Ames said, and bowed again. "We will talk later of the work ye need from
the guild."
Ky'shei and Couldin nodded and bowed, then turned down the
corridor. Ames waited for them to leave and spoke up to David.
"Now mind what they said, son. If ye go off wondering, try t'
stay out of trouble and keep ye hands to yerself. D'ya understand?"
"Aye da, I do. I'm not a youngin anymore." David said annoyed.
"Good." Ames said with a smile. "Right now, I'm goin t' take a
rest. I'm not as young as you, ye know. Ill see ye tonight for dinner,
eh?"
David grinned. "Aye da, ye shall. Good'noon to ya."
"Good'noon son." Ames replied and entered his room, closeing the
door behind him.
David picked up his pack, and went into his own room. The
furnishings were simple, but gave off a comfortable feeling that was to
be found in ones own house. Putting his clothes away, David thought
about the day so far. It had been exciting. His first ride on a dragon,
and a hatching to view tomorrow. It was surely the most exciting time of
his life. After he was finished, David stepped from his room to explore
the warren....
NRPG:
Well, here is David. I'll come up with the info on the Guild of
Swords. Who knows what will happen at the hatching tomorrow.
By the way, David and his father speak in a slight Scottish
accent. Can ye tell? ;)
