David searched for the proper words, 'I acted without thinkin.  I do care
fer her, and the last thing I would want t' do es hurt her en any way.'  His
face showed the concern and shame of being so cold to one that had only
showed him warmth and 
friendship.  'Can ye tell her I be sorry?'


*I can tell her, but I do not think she will listen.  You touched many old
wounds.*  Kirimith ducked her head till she was looking directly into
David's face *Mark me well, David Swordson.  If you intend to hurt Minty in
such a way again, it would be best for you to turn and run now.  Do not earn
my enmity.*


Giving David no time to reply, Kirimith turned her head towards the
shivering Minty.  Gently, almost delicately for one so large, she nudged to
gain attention.  Minty just huddled closer, wanting to escape, wishing she
had never believed the lies told her by the Warren dwellers.


*David says he is sorry.*  Kirimith said  *Speak to him, Minty.  His
thoughts say he speaks the truth....*


*Just tell him to go away.  Please Kirimith.*  Minty's tears welled up and
spilled down her cheeks.  *I don't want to talk to him.  I don't understand
any of this.  I don't want to be here Kirimith... Take me away, please?*


*Running away will solve nothing.  Are you a coward?  How will you face
battle against the wraiths if you cannot first face a man!*  Kirimith
demanded in a stern tone, and Minty lifted her head in shock.


*Me a coward?* Minty was outraged  *I am not afraid of wraiths.  Or men!*


*Then why do you wish to run from David?  I am here to protect you, and he
has been warned.  He is sorry.  He thought you afraid of his telepathy....*


*Afraid?  Why should I be?*  Minty straightened, and turned to face the
waiting David.  "Why would you think me afraid of it, David?"  she asked aloud


"M'ressan told me that telepathy was usually taken with negative emotions.
Et makes some afraid, and I thought ye be the same..."  David broke off


"Why would you think that?  Could you not have asked me how I felt?"  Minty
demanded  "You're the one afraid of it, David!  Not me......"
