(DL-K) Mearn Introduction
NRPG: This is the introduction to a new character in DL, played by Jack
Shot. Like Reolden Almaren, Mearn's going to be more of a Guest PC, since
Jack's time is irratic. Welcome, Jack!
I know this is an odd request, but would everyone please NOT add Jack's
address to their mailing lists. I'll be forwarding relevant posts to him,
as this helps him distinguish them from the rest of the 100ish mail
messages he gets a day. His address is in the header. Email him only if
you have a private NRPG. -Susan
RPG:
The morning Christalla wakes up, as the first people are rising in
the warren, a man is spotted standing at the top of the cliff. He's
dressed in black, and has a large dog with him (though it's tough to tell.
With the increase in elevation, he's a fair distance away.) He stands
there for a few minutes before squatting down to do something. The dog
trots away as he rises, and is soon gone from sight. He then throws a
rope over the edge of the cliff, and begins to lower himself.
As he steadily works his way down the cliff, a few people begin to
wonder who this guy is who is suddenly climbing down a cliff in this area.
A few people begin to debate this person's sanity, when aparently he loses
his grip. He falls nearly 15 feet before something catches his fall, and
he hangs suspended by his midsection from this rope. After a few seconds,
his hands slowly reach out for the cliff again, and he resumes his
downward journey.
As this mysterious lunatic gets closer to the ground, and a few
people gather around to see this person as he reaches the ground, several
people notice a second rope supporting a large satchel which he is
lowering along with himself. He also has a sword strapped across his
back. The latter does not do much for the general opinion of him.
Eventually, he reaches the ground, and stands facing the cliff for
a moment. His muttering is barely heard, but people can make out a few
words, "... should give this up. Oh well, there's gotta be someone around
here who can ... Oh, Hi!" The last is said as he turns around to face the
people who are gathered around.
He is just over 6 foot in height, probably weighing 175-185. His
hair is dark brown, and his eyes are green. Judging by his appearance,
this is not the first cliff he has climbed, as he appears to be in very
good physical condition. His clothes are black, and his pants are made
from a cloth not seen before. Though covered with dirt and dust, he
smiles as he extends a hand.
"I'm Mearn Torin. Sorry, I didn't realize anyone lived in this
area," he says, glancing around and he appears to notice the signs of
civilization for the first time. "I don't suppose you could tell me where
exactly this is? I appear to be kinda lost."
At this point, anyone who had bet on him being crazy smiles,
thinking of collecting on the bet. "Surely everyone knows us, or at least
knows of us." But Mearn appears to not know anything of the Warren, and
upon questioning, of Dragonriders in general.
As people are deciding what exactly to do with this stranger, a
slightly annoyed look crosses his face. He casts a quick glance around,
then gives a loud whistle. "Rem!" he calls out, then mutters "Where'd she
run off to this time?" A few seconds later, the dog he was with at the
top of the cliff dashes from around a corner and runs to him. It is then
that people notice: that's no dog, that's a wolf. Rem is a fairly large
grey wolf, and looks quite healthy. He squats down as she dashes up to
him, and hugs her. As he stands, he ruffles her fur. She stands noticably
between Mearn and the Warrenfolk until he says, "It's O.K. They're
friends." She then moves around the people, making a few slightly
nervous.
"Don't worry about her. She's just identifying you all." This
makes some people even more nervous, though people can't put a finger on
exactly what's wrong until a voice exclaims, "That wolf understands you?!"
"We kinda have an agreement, her and I." Mearn replies, and leaves
it at that. He then slings his satchel over his shoulder and says, "I
don't suppose someone can point me to a place I can wash up? It's great
exercise, but climbing rocks probably gets you dirtier than anything else
a person can do."
