<<Morning after the party>>

She stood in front of the sink holding the bottle of amber liquid in one
hand and a spoon in the other. Her blue eyes were troubled as she looked at
the bottle of birth control. She'd not taken any since she and Almiron
decided to become mates ..  She frowned almost hearing the words in her
head, 'It doesn't do any good if not taken daily ..' How many times had she
been told that when she and Makayla had first joined.

As she sat looking at the bottle she wondered why she'd stopped taking it.
They really weren't 100% sure of Almiron's gift .. were they? She knew
Almiron and their dragon's were hopeful, but there could be a chance it
wouldn't work this time. After all, how many times had they been together
in the past with no resulting pregnancy? Of course his talents had seemed
to have changed..

She took a deep breath and poured the liquid into the spoon, quickly
bringing it to her mouth and swollowing it.  She stared at her relection in
the mirror, wondering for a moment if she'd made the right choice. Would
Almiron be terribly disappointed? She sighed deeply and set the spoon down
and screwed the lid back on.

She walked into the med center trying to look inconspicuous, her eyes
searching for the head healer. The more she thought the more she worried
and she had to talk to him. She silently pleaded with the fates that he
could be found easily.

She nearly sighed aloud in relief as she saw him slip into one of the
patient rooms.  She moved quickly to stand next to the door he had gone
into, waiting impatiently as she fidgeted slightly.

Finally he stepped back through the door. She stepped in front of him
nearly tripping him, "Kyven, can I talk to you?"

"Gods Darlea, you shouldn't sneak up on a person like that," he said
catching his breath after being startled by the young woman.

"I .. I'm sorry, but I have to see you."

He could see the seriousness in her blue eyes, so he nodded, "Of course,
follow me."

He lead her down the hallway and into his office. "Please take a seat," he
motioned to a chair as he moved to file the chart he was carrying. Then
after settling himself behind his desk, he put on his most fatherly
expression, and asked, "What can I do for you."

"Well, I was wondering .." She begain, "I mean .. how bad .." She sighed
trying to findthe right words, "Is the birth control we take bad if you're
.. pregnant .. I mean for the baby."

"Have you been taking it regularly?" he asked.

She looked down at his desk and shook her head, "It's just that we ..
Almiron and I .. talked about his .. gift. And .. well, at the time there
didn't seem to be a point to it. But now  .."

"Now what? You're having second thoughts."

She nodded, fighting to keep the tears out of her eyes. "It's just that I
was listening to my father talk about how smart it was to wait .. and the
more I thought about it .. the more scared I got."

Kyven's face turned very serious, "You know we can stop a pregnancy if .."

"Oh no!" Darlea said looking up at him, shaking her head, "I couldn't do
that .. I just thought maybe if I went back to taking the medicine .. maybe
it would just prevent it. I couldn't do what Salinda did .." she looked
down again, remember that Kyven had been the one to preform the procedure.

"Well, you know that there are always people here in the warren to help you
whenever you need it. I'm sure your mother would be there for you."

She nodded, "I know, but I was just hoping that .. well, that it would just
turn out okay if I started taking the medicine again." Her eyes pleaded
with him.

NRPG: I think she knows the answer, but I don't think she's happy with it
and wants a different one :)
