[DL-K] A Trading Of Infomation

The two men listen to Briana as she told them what she knew and what names
she had seen on the note. It helped a little but they still needed more proof.
"Maybe Shae could come up with something if Briana tells her what she
knows," K'tan said finally. "It wouldn't hurt to try and see if this
information could jar her memory any... that is if Briana will go with us to
talk to her?"
Both male riders turned to look at her, "Will you come?" Jono asked.
"Sure why not," Briana agreed quickly. "Who knows... she might come up with
something.
.............
"Okay where is she?" Jono who was the first to the bar, asked his older
brother after the three had arrived at the Inn looking for Shae.
"And just who might that be little brother?" Kende's face held a look of
innocence as he looked past Jono to the other two riders with him. He was
wondering if his younger brother was crazy or not for bring them here. He
had to know what kind of trouble Shae could be in if others found out she
was here.
Jono took the hint, he leaned closer over the bar so that only his brother
would hear his next words.
"Shae...," he said in a low voice. "I know she's here so don't tell me she
isn't. M'ressan told us he's seen her and she was heading here. We need to
see her. It's important."
Kende didn't so much as flinch, as Jono would hoped he'd do. If he had, and
looked away even if only for a second then Kende might have given himself
away... Or Shae, but he held his brothers eyes admitting to nothing.
"Who are they?" Kende asked, finally slipping his eyes away from his brother
to look at the two other people who entered the Inn behind him.
"Friends... K'tan here is a very *special* friend of Shae's if you know what
I mean... She's be really upset if she found out he'd been here looking for
her and you denied she was here," he left the rest of that threat slide.
"And the girl?" Kende asked ignoring his brothers threat, and shifting his
gaze towards Briana.
"Briana, rider of Starleana. Someone who knows a lot more about what's going
on then we do. She could help prove Shae innocent and allow her to come back
to the Warren where she belongs." Jono explained as he moved behind the bar
and began to help himself to something to drink. He filled three glasses
with a fruity concoction, handing them out before turning back to his brother.
"Come on Bro... If you can't trust me then who can you trust with Shae's
safety?" Jono frowned. "We think we may have a lead about the trouble she's
in but we need to talk to her to see if she can remember anything else..."
Shae nearly dropped the tray she was holding, drinks and all into the lap of
the man seated at the table she was serving when she turned at the sound of
the door opening and saw who had entered.
Had they come here looking for her and if so how had they known she was
here. She had meant to get a message to Jono or K'tan but as yet hadn't had
the time. And if not to see her then why was the girl with them. Briana had
never shown much liking for her every since Briana thought they were going
after the same man.
Or she thought, Briana thought they were..... but it hadn't been like that.
He'd only been a friend to Shae...
She had to know why they were here... Not... that she wasn't happy to see
them. For she was. She missed K'tan like crazy and dreamed about him every
night, only to wake up crying because him being beside her had only been a
dream.
Silently she moved closer hoping the dark colored wig and baggy clothing she
wore would give her enough protection and they wouldn't know it was her.
She was glad she had when she heard what Jono was saying.....
"Will you're friends be staying for lunch sir," she asked Kende, ignoring
the others for a moment. "I can show them to a table in the smaller dining
hall if they are."
"Now that sounds like a good idea," Kende's lips curved up in a wide smile.
"Nothing beats a good home cooked meal like we serve her in the Inn."
"We didn't come here to eat..." K'tan started, suddenly frustrated at not
being able to see the person they had come to see. And getting a little
annoyed at his loves older brother.
"No. No..."Jono said, turning to his friend and with his eyes shot the man a
message to go along with him. "A meal does sound like a good idea and it's
been ages since I had breakfast. How about you Bri?" he turned to the girl
and saw her slight smile.
She'd caught on quicker then K'tan had.
"Why I've always heard the food was top rate here but have never had the
time to come check it out. A meal does sound good and you're buying Jono."
"It'll be my pleasure my dear," he said holding out his arm for her to take.
Then he turned back to the serving girl. "Lead on my good woman. You've
three hungry rider's to feed, and while you're waiting on us you can fill us
in on the gossip happening around here."
Shae nodded her head, looking only at her brother for she knew if she looked
at K'tan now she would lose it. But once she had led them to the smaller and
private dining hall, and the curtain was closed behind them, she was grabbed
by the shoulders and turned around to receive his kiss.
"You have to excuse them," Jono rolled his eyes then gave the girl a wink
when he saw Briana looking at them. "They're in love."
"I can see that."
"Sorry..." K'tan grinned sheepishly, when he'd finally ended the kiss. "It's
just that I've missed her a little bit."
"Just a little," Briana snorted. ""We couldn't tell. But maybe now if you're
done with your reunion we can get started on the business at hand. You
remember... the reason we came here?"
"Yes... that might be a good idea since M'ressan is waiting to find out what
we learned," Jono agreed as they each took seats at the table.
"Why did you come here?" Shae asked, taking a seat with them.
"We found out a few things recently that could help to clear you..." K'tan
told her, reaching for her hand. "And Briana here has told us a bit more. We
thought it might be a good idea to bring her along so she could tell you
what she knows and then maybe... it might help you to remember something you
may have forgotten, or didn't think was important."
Shae nodded slightly and stole a look at the girl then gave her brother an
accusing look. "Sounds like it might work. I guess I don't have to ask how
you knew I was here?"
"I swear Sis we didn't tell him where you were. How he found out is still a
mystery to us, but when he got back he ah... explained to us that he had
found you in Jasra and had a talk with you," Jono told her.
His slight pause made her wonder. Just how much of the trip to Jasra did
M'ressan *explain* to them? She wondered if he had told them of Kaaren
rising to mate... and that he his dragon had been the winner.
She didn't know yet how she was going to explain that to K'tan.
"Okay so what is it that you think I might remember?" she asked to break the
silence that had come over the room. She'd deal with the mating flight later.
"Briana here has some information about the Fellowship that is plaguing the
Warren," Jono told her. "We think or we hope that once she tells you about
it, you might remember something else that you haven't told us about what
happen to you."
"Worth a try," she agreed and looked to the girl to begin explaining.
Once again Briana went over what she had told the others earlier about the
letter naming names. By the time she was finished Shae had a new respect for
the girl. An feared for her life.
"Man oh man!" she sighed, her eyes widening in response to what she had just
learned. The poor girl dead. She hadn't known this Maya, but wished now that
she had. The poor girl had been murdered for trying to help her. "If they
have any idea that you know these things... you're in worse danger then I
am. If they'd stoop so low as to murder the poor girl from the kitchen...
Then what's to say they won't try for you?"
She turned to her bother and K'tan. "It might be a good idea if she stayed
here with me until this thing is over. She'd be safe here."
"I'm safe enough in the Warren right now," Briana told her with a slight
grin. "But if things change I may take you up on it. But in the mean time...
what can you remember about the names I gave you?"
Shae leaned back in her chair, her expression thoughtful.
"K'wen, the bastard I know all to well," she told them, her eyes alive with
hate for the man. "I've had a few dealings with him and can say honestly
that I believe he's part of it. But this other man... this L'talin... I saw
him once or twice during training classes, but other then that we never had
anything to do with eachother. I can't honestly remember even talking to the
man at all... But K'wen... now he's an other story. I always had him pegged
as the one who put all that stuff in my apartment... But you're telling me
now it was this L'talin?"
"That's what M'ressan thinks Maya was going to tell him, but she was killed
before she could name him." K'tan told her. "Right now we're not sure what
to think. But somehow we think K'wen found out that she knew something and
killed her to keep her quiet. Everything we've found out points to him.
Right down to his having an affair with her then dumping her."
"K'wen's not bright enough to do something like that on his own. Has anyone
thought to search his apartment?" Shae asked, after thinking it over. Then
saw the question in the three sets of eyes looking back at her. "Like I
said... I don't think he's bright enough to do it on his own... He might
think his apartment is a safe place to hide something he doesn't want
found... We could go there and have a look..."
"Hold on now Sis you're not going back..." Jono started at the same time
K'tan said, "No way Shae..."
"Why not?" she asked frowning. "Kaaren can get me in before anyone..."
"NO!" both said at the same time. "M'ressan would have our hides if he found
out we allowed you to come back to the Warren at this time. No way. You can
get that idea right out of your head this minute. You're staying right here
where it's safe."
"But you might over look something..." she argued.
"That's why Briana here is going with us love," K'tan grinned, for he knew
things about the girl that the others didn't. "She has a few ah...
special... talents that I think would work out well for this kind of job."
He nodded his head towards Briana and saw the wicked smile lighting the
girl's face.
"You can be sure Shaelesta that if he does have anything hidden there...
I'll find it," Briana assured her and Shae believed her.
"Good luck to you then... and make sure you let me know what you find..."
Shae's own lips held a look of innocents neither her brother or lover
trusted. "And soon... If you don't want me coming to Keldarra to find out
for myself."
Jono nodded to his sister then looked at Briana and nodded towards the door
leading back into the main hall. "Why don't we go pay our duties to Kende
while these two say their good-byes."
When the others had left, Shae looked up at the man she loved. It hurt to
have him so near and know he had to leave so soon. They wouldn't have more
then a few moments together.
"It'll be over soon love," he said softly drawling her against him and
hugging her tight. "Then you can come home and we won't have to hide any
longer."
"A day won't be soon enough my love..." she said softly, trying to hold back
the tears threatening to fall. Then she pulled away from him. "Go now...
find the evidence you need so I can come home."
"We will Shae," he promised. His hand reached out caressing her cheek one
last time, and then she was alone in the room as he left to rejoin the others.
"Let's go." He told them and walked out of the Inn without a backwards gaze.
