(DL-M) Meetings

He landed in front of the warren entrance that lead to Waylene's office.
He ran his fingers through his hair, realising he hadn't combed it, and
entered.

"You wanted to see me, WarrenLady?"

"Yes, please sit down, Tr'etram," she said and watched as he sat. "I
spoke with Z'lec last night about your difference of opinion in the
medical building yesterday."

He nodded.

Waylene sighed, "Tr'etram, I want to give you every possible chance at a
new life here. Z'lec really does too, though he isn't accepting it as
easily. He is worried about what will happen if you have a relapse. I
worry about that myself, but I don't have to work with you on a daily
basis as Z'lec will if you plan on being a combat dragonrider here."

"He's already accusing me without cause."

Waylene nodded. "I know, and so does he. You're going to have to prove
yourself to him. It may not be fair, but it is reality."

Trey sat for a moment, struggling with his emotions. "Look. I understand
his concern. In his shoes, I'd feel the same way. But, I'm more afraid
of a relapse than you or he could possibly be. Koroth has strict orders
to report anything untoward and I know he'll do it. He almost lost me
once, he's not going to let anything happen again. But as for Z'lec, the
simple fact is this: You assured Ophelia that I would have a second chance
here. I know you can't speak for everyone here at the warren, but I
expect your word to extend to all of the leaders here. That means that
Z'lec can be cautious, but he has to give me a chance. If he keeps
treating me the way he has been, then he's ignoring your authority,
flouting it. No disrespect, Waylene, but that's the way I see it. He's
your mate, and mates tend to get away with a little more than others, but
I still expect to be given a chance. I... I appreciate it that you've
offered it to me. I keep thinking I'll wake up and find out it's all an
illusion and that I'm to be banished. But if your word means nothing,
then I might as well pack for the wilderness now."

She sat for a second, stunned at his words and then opened her mouth to
speak.

"No," he interrupted, "there's nothing more to be said. I understand his
fears and I understand his position. You know mine. That's all the
discussion there needs to be." And he stood and walked out of the room.

He nearly walked right into Z'lec standing, no, *hovering* nearby.
<Making sure I don't hurt her,> he thought. Out loud he said as pleasant
a good morning as he could muster.

"Good morning," Z'lec replied, flustered nonetheless.

He started to walk past, then thought of something. "Z'lec, when are you
going to work the new riders into your wing?"

"Soon," Z'lec answered. "I'll be calling a meeting soon."

"Good. I'll be there."

"Tr'etram," Z'lec called to him as he started to walk off again, "what
was Diana doing in your apartment this morning?"

Trey stopped. His first thought was that such a question was certainly
none of Z'lec's business, but then realised that in the wingleader's
shoes, he would be equally concerned. His eyes met Z'lec's. "She was
having breakfast... She... spent the night."

He turned and walked off from the shocked and bewildered wingleader. He
knew the man would probably talk to Diana later and warn her about him,
but there was nothing Z'lec could tell her that she didn't already know.

******

<Baeta,> the dragon spoke to her, <some dragons and I have been talking
about something a dragonrider here has done in the past. We don't
understand it.>

<What's that, love?>

<Well, he forced his daughter to mate with him. Humans seem upset with
this, but it is the way of things with dragons. Is it truly wrong?>

Baeta didn't need to answer the dragon, for she could feel her rider's
horror as she spoke. <What man, love? Tell me, I need to know to avoid
him.>

<His name is Tr'etram. His dragon is Koroth.>

Baeta absorbed this information and thought about the rumours she had
heard. She must tell the Warrenlady, she decided... and warn a few female
friends as well.

Respectfully submitted,

  Tr'etram and Koroth
