>Before Waylene could form another question, D'ssarian spoke up. "M'lady, I
feel if we are to have any chance of saving the life of the man in the med
center, we had better start soon," he turned to look at Koda. "Are you able
to assist in surgery?"
>Koda smiled, her green eyes sparkling. "Would you expect anything less
from the daughter of Larsine?" she asked and saw the shock register in the
older mans face before it turned to certain respect. Her father was well
known, but Lakoda rarely traded on his name.
>"Well then Daughter of Larsine, let us proceed. Shall We?"
Waylene looked at the healers, "You're sure you can do this?"
D'ssarian looked at Lakoda who nodded. Turning back to Waylene, he said,
"It'll be fine, Lady. We will be careful."
"How long will it take to mix this potion of yours?" she asked Lakoda.
"Not long. It'll be ready within the hour."
"Very well, but I'd still like to have someone in the room in case that
thing inside him isn't asleep. I'll talk to M'kale myself if I have to."
D'ssarian nodded, understanding the Warrenlady's hesitation. She too was
still feeling the loss of the sunny girl.
"Does that mean I can stay?" asked Lakoda.
"I will leave that up to D'ssarian. If he feels you will be an asset, you
may stay."
As the two healers left Z'lec spoke up. "I know you may not want to hear
this right now , 'Lene, but if she's right and this puts that wraith to
sleep, it would be a perfect chance to study them."
Waylene's head shot up as she glared at him. "And let what happened to
Shard happen to someone else."
"Not if that healer can keep this thing out cold."
"Z'lec, I will not endanger any more of my dragonriders." She turned to her
father still sitting listening. "Lord Godred, you and your people are
welcome to stay as long you want."
"I would like to find out if this is actually what has gotten my guard. And
if it is, how to prevent it from happening again." said the large man.
Z'lec saw this as his opportunity, "Waylene, we can't help these people
unless we know more about the wraiths inside them."
Waylene looked at him. She didn't want to endanger anyone else .. but what
the wingleader was saying made a lot of sense. "We haven't found a cage
that works."
"That's not exactly true." Z'lec said. "M'kale tells me that the last one
the tried actually worked. Shard was hurt because there was more then one
wraith and they weren't expecting that. I'm sure he and T'rend could get
one made again."
"Do you hear what you are saying?" she asked, "We set that team up last
summer with four members. Now only two left. I don't want to risk losing
T'rend or M'kale."
David, who'd been sitting there also listening, spoke, "I beg yer pardon,
m'lady. But we take chances everyday just patrolin'. Et's a part of our
job as a dragonrider. These wraiths be our enemy. We make our jobs safer t'
more we learn about them."
Waylene looked at Z'lec's second. "Oh gods. But M'kale just lost Sky .."
"Et'll be good fer him."
Waylene nodded, giving in to persuasion. Z'lec jumped on the opportunity.
I'll have T'rend go talk to him." He quickly headed out of the Warrenlady's
office in search of the dark-haired dragonrider.

T'rend headed with trepidation toward Mukale's apartment. He knew the young
man was surely in mourning over the loss of Sky. But he also knew he
couldn't do this on his own. He needed the young man's help. And they
didn't have much time. The surgery would begin soon.
"M'kale?" he called as he slid off Grall's back onto the ledge, "M'kale, I
have to talk to you."

Waylene & Aura
***
NRPG: Barb, I'd really like to cage that thing so if we can put off the
surgery just a short time to get a cage there and set up.
Mike, Do you think we have a spare cage? I know the one was lost in one of
the tremors. I also didn't know if Brisse was still in Mukale's apartment
so I left that for you to decide. Do you think Mukale can pull himself out
of his mourning long enough to do this .. after all this would be for Shard
and Sky as well. To prove that your task you were set at so long ago, and
then halted by Waylene was *not* a failure :}
