Ailill
~*~*~*~
After Waylene left the room Ailill returned to her seat by Z'lec. She
was relieved that Waylene had agreed to her request, but now that she
had permission she wasn't sure where to start. Her telepathic abilities
were rusty from dissuse. There hadn't been much need for the telepathy
at the warren. Biting her lip she decided to start with one of the
exersizes that she and Salis had invented when they were just begining
to explore their abilities.
Closing her eyes she took Z'lec's hand. Touch seemed to help her focus.
She pictured herself sitting in the darkness. There was nothing around
her but the night air. She steadied her breathing, and relaxed. The
darkness in her mind hid everything except for her. Once she felt
centered, relaxed and focused, she shifted her center of focus outward.
She wasn't sure what to expect. She had never done this excpet when
working with Salis. She and her brother had been so close that they
were naturally drawn towards each other. She had never had to *search*
for Salis's mind.
Reaching out a mental *hand* she fumbled for Z'lec. There was nothing,
nothing but darkness. <Damn,> she thought, there had to be something,
she _had_ to be able to feel something. She redoubled her efforts.
Probing the darkness with her mind. Finally she felt a glimmer. She
had almost passed it by because it was so faint. It was nothing like
her connection with Salis. He had always been so open. So welcoming
This glimmer had no emotion, no feeling, it was closed. Shut tighter
than a shellfish who had been lifted from the sea. What it did feel was
alive. As she ran her mind over this glimmer she could feel that it was
alive. She sighed deeply. This had to be Z'lec, she had found him.
Now all she had to do was convince him to open up. To let her in. If
he could even hear her.
She racked her mind to think of something to say to Z'lec. This was
hopeless, what could she tell this man to give him hope? What could she
say that would bring back this man to a world that he no longer wanted
to live in?
Just as she was about to give up entirely she felt Storm's comforting
presence. Without words the dragon gave her strength. Ailill knew what
it was like to lose someone who was so close that they made the world
revolve. Before she lost her brother she had never been alone. He had
always been a thought away. Often she had found herself speaking to him
without even realizing that she was not using her voice. After he was
gone, she had, for the first time in her young life, been totally alone.
She had never felt more alone than in those six month between her
brothers death and her joining with Storm. In a way she knew what Z'lec
was goning through. She could use that to reach him. At least she
hoped so.
She was just beginning to make her first attempt. She was reaching out
to him and...
A hand touched her shoulder. Snapping her out of her trance. She gazed
up, a bit dazed at Kendal's concerned face.
"Kendal?" She spoke in a raspy sounding voice.
