[DL-M] A Volunteer

Trak was a little stunned to hear her say what she had said. had he know
that she was with child he would never had put her in any danger... that
just wasn't the right thing to do. But still he wasn't ready for it. He
listened quietly and watched the rest of the wing as she spoke to the
assembled riders. It didn't appear that they were happy with his decision
to make her join the wing but he did what he had thought was best.
After she finished she just walked away, she didn't even acknowledge her
name when he called it out, not once but twice. He knew he was in for
another challenge as he looked over the riders... it was going to be a long
night.
"Alright everyone settle down, please," he said as he paused a moment as
they quieted down. "The healer is right. I was punishing her when I first
had her join the wing. I thought that it would be the right thing to do,
maybe help teach her a little discipline, she did disobey a direct order
given to her by myself. Then as she progressed I thought that it would be a
wonderful idea and opportunity to have a combat medic that would fly with
the wing into battle if needed." He paused again to take a breath and
survey the riders before continuing, "I was wrong to make her join the wing
like that. Had I known of her aversion to killing I would never have put
her in a position where she might have to kill. Now I can only hope that
she'll train the lucky volunteer from you riders to take her place. I
wanted the best for my wing, but as I said I made a mistake and I am not
afraid to admit that. Now if anyone else has any problems with this you all
know where my office is at. Also training will be postponed for the next
week. Only the regular patrols will fly unless something else comes up.
Thank you all. Have a good night. Dismissed."
He was still disturbed with the way Koda had left... maybe he should go
after her to make sure she was ok. Maybe he could explain to her more about
what his intentions were. He was still pondering the thought when he heard
his name called.
>"Excuse me, Traknor? Could I speak with you for a moment?"
>
>"Certainly Ailill."
>
>"Well, I've been giving a lot of thought to your call for a combat medic,
and I think I'd like to take the >job? Since I won't be back on full duty
for a while, I will have the perfect opportunity to study
>with the healers."
>
>"Are you sure about this Ailill, it will mean working a double shift when
you are back on duty. Both >drilling with the wing and your studies."
>
>The work would give her an Excuse to put of dealing with Kendal. She
nodded. "I know it will be hard, >but I'm willing."
>
>He grinned, "I'm glad to hear it Ailill. You can speak with the healers
about training tomorrow. If we >still have any healers." He added bleakly.
>
>"Why wouldn't we have any healers?" Ailill was confused by his mumblings.
>
>"It's a long story Ailill, too long."
"Bah! Mayhaps another time. Go on and enjoy yer night off young lady. Just
report to the Med Center in the afternoon. I'll try to take care of
everything in the morning. If there are any problems let me know. Now go
on." he said with a smile and wink.
Waylene's Apt.
"Hey there lover!" he said as he entered and grabbed her up for a kiss, "I
got some pretty good news for ye this evening."
"And what news do you have my dear," she asked as she snuggled closer to him.
"I found someone to take Koda's place. Young Ailill has volunteered to
learn the ways of medicine under Koda's tutelage. I just have to convince
Koda to train her," he sighed.
"I understand. Would you like me to talk with her about this?" she asked
looking up at him.
"Let me try first. I think she knows I was trying to do the best thing for
the wing and warren, so she may do the training for the wing and warren,
not because I came and asked her. but enough of business fer the night." he
smothered her reply with a longer kiss than the first one, let her go and
started for the kitchen calling back, "Remember I promised to make dinner
for you tonight."
