Aurianna was enjoying herself immensly. She couldn't believe how much
the people here enjoyed her music. It was a far cry from Falagand,
where she hadn't even been allowed to play much at all. People were
dancing and having a good time. She had ended a song and was about to
begin another when... <~Dance~> Aurianna stopped in mid action, bow
halfway to the strings.
<~What?~>
<~You heard me Auri, dance~>
<~But folks will think I'm a show-off~>
<~Maybe so, but I can think of a particular someone who would enjoy it
immensly~>
<~Who?~>
<~Calindeth's rider, Darrkon~>
<~What?!~>
The only reply she got to that question was laughter, then silence.
Aurianna sighed, knowing she wasn't going to get anymore information
from Alora and that she wouldn't get any peace until she did as the
dragon asked. She stepped off the dias and walked over to where
Darrkon was sitting and she had left her violin case. Darrkon looked
at her quizzically, and she merely smiled at him. Then she picked up
the tambourine and walked back to the dias. People looked over at her
quizzically and she waited until it was quiet to explain herself.
"Before I begin, let me tell you that this isn't my idea. I'm doing
this to make my dragon happy, so if any of you have a problem you can
take it up with her. She's the sea green one with silver streaks."
Several riders chuckled at this, knowing themselves that it is usually
wise to keep the dragons happy. Now, however, people were extremely
curious as to what Aurianna was going to do next. She smiled, knowing
that now was the time to begin.
"Since Alora is insisting that I dance now, that is what I'm going to
do. Later, if any of the ladies present would like, I'd be more than
happy to teach this dance to them." Aurianna then stepped to the
floor in front of the dias, smiled daringly at Darrkon, and began.
The dance started out slowly, the only things keeping time being the
tambourine in her hand and the sound of her bare feet on the floor.
As she went on and the tempo increased, people began keeping time as
well by clapping and/or stamping their feet.
[tag Ismail, what will Darrkon make of this? <g>]
Aurianna whirled, her long hair flying out behind her, and finished
the dance with a flourish of the tambourine. She stood there for a
moment in silence, then bowed when the applause began. She smiled and
walked back over to the table where Darrkon was sitting. She sat down
and took a long drink from her glass. <~Are you happy now Alora?~>
<~Oh yes, quite happy...and so is Calindeth~> this statement of
Alora's was followed by a chuckle.
<~And why would Calindeth be happy?~>
<~Oh, no reason...but I think Darrkon likes you, and that maybe you
like him too~>
<~What?! The way you talk sometimes Alora. I've only just met him~>
<~What difference should that make? Besides, he seems nice and I
*know* Calindeth is nice~>
Try as she would, Aurianna got no more information out of her dragon.
She shook her head, chuckling slightly. "Something funny?" Darrkon
asked. She looked over at him, eyes twinkling merrily. "Oh yes,
quite funny. It's just something Alora has assumed. She makes some
pretty wild assumptions sometimes." Darrkon grinned. "Calindeth does
as well."
Just then, Aurianna yawned, belatedly trying to cover it with her
hand. "Excuse me," she said. "I must be more tired than I thought."
Darrkon smiled. "I should have realized that you'd be tired after
moving in and everything today. I'll walk you out to your dragon, if
you'd like." Aurianna smiled back at him. "Thank you, that would be
very kind of you." She stood and collected her instruments, then took
the arm he offered her and the two of them walked out.
When they got outside, Aurianna looked around for Alora, but she was
nowhere to be seen. Calindeth was nowhere in sight either. <~Alora?
Where are you?~> Aurianna peered out into the moonlit area around the
buildings, but still didn't see Alora's sillhouette. <~I'm down by
the lake Auri~>
<~By yourself?~>
<~No, with Calindeth. He's been catching me up on all the Warren
gossip~>
Aurianna tapped Darrkon on the shoulder. "She's down by the lake.
And I believe she's with your dragon." Darrkon looked down at her and
by the look on his face she could tell that his dragon had probably
just told him the same thing. He shrugged slightly. "I'll just walk
you down there then. It's actually quite lovely at night." The two
of them headed down to the lake to retrieve their dragons.
[tag Ismail again. You could decide what happens, but Alora *has*
been talking to Calindeth, so... <g>]
