"Look Kendal," she said, "You didn't do anything that was that uncalled
for. I watched Z'lec last night. He really does care for Ailill .. and now
that it's at least clear that he didn't kill that child .. well .. I don't
think he would hurt you or Ailill. As far as some of the rest of us .. I'm
not sure. But we all know that having guards on him at the med center
doesn't help. Especially his own men."

"So you aren't too mad at me?"

"Well you did disobey my orders and I don't like that .. but you and Z'lec
also brought Ailill and Tina back safely .. and uncovered that ring of
bandits. They won't be staying in Marrid much longer .. of that I've not
doubt."

He nodded, "Still with those cave there's no telling what kind of danger
might be in there .. and short of blocking them up, there's only one thing
I can think of to keep people her safe."

"I don't think blocking them is feasible.  Do you know how many caves there
are?"

He nodded, "I agree. But what if the warrenfolk had someone to teach them
self-defense. Someone who's lived on his own for a long time."

Waylene grinned, "I think that's a wonderful idea, Kendal." She paused. You
are offering aren't you."

"I am," he grinned.

<<That evening >>

Waylene smiled as Yasmine and Starlin landed on the ledge to her apartment.
"Yasmine, I'm so glad to see you home again."

Yasi nodded, but looked glum. Waylene frowned, "What's wrong?"

"It's my cousin, Datha .."

Waylene nodded, D'zall had brought word along that Datha was already making
her move to take over Tressa. It really wasn't a question .. she would take
over Tressa. Yasmine was a dragonrider and couldn't and that left only
Datha in close enough relations to have a legal claim.

"Zaphron told me that she's threatened to have me killed. She wants no
rivals to her taking over."

"Oh Yasmine, we'd never let anything happen to you. And Datha doesn't have
the courage to go up against the warren."

"Not openly, no .." Yasmine said, "But she would find a way. Way do you
think Utha sent her away in the first place. When her parents died, he
brought her to live with us for a while. But she would antagonize me.
Constantly picking and .. well once it got dangerous. I was nearly killed
by one of her pranks. That's when he sent her away. I don't trust her ..
and I can't risk Starlin on what she might do."

"So what are you planning on doing?"

"I'm leaving Marrid. My father and his family will be going with me."

"Where are you going?" Waylene asked sadly.

"I'd rather not say. It's just better that way."

Waylene nodded, "I wish you'd reconsider, but .. I do understand."

"We're leaving tomorrow .. just enough time for me to say good-bye to Koda
.. and S'an .."
