Subject: DL/M - The Green Green Grass of... Just Where Are We Anyway?
*Somewhere in the Lands*
Daetyn came out of teleport far too close to the ground to be safe. Banking roughly, she spread her wings to break the fall. It almost worked, but as the dragon watched in horror, her rider tumbled off her back into the grass.
The dragon froze, unable to see through the two-foot deep foliage and still not quite sure if A'Rillia was okay. There was a groan from somewhere near her left foreleg and the healer sat up groggily.
<Ooooh, my aching head. Don't *ever* do that again.>
<:Oh I can hear you now, I was so worried...:> The dragon put her feet down and butted Arri's chest gently with her nose. The woman patted her eyeridges reassuringly and looked around. She didn't see anyone... oh wait, there was Fiera off behind her.
Nervously, the healer reached up to touch the dried blood at the base of her ear. <I think I need Koda to look at this, if she ever gets here.>
<:I hurt you... did I hurt you? I didn't mean it, but I couldn't hear you and I thought...:>
There was a contemplative pause as A'Rillia stared up at her dragon. She had never heard Daetyn so frightened and didn't quite know what to think of it.
<We're okay now, Dae, honest. And I'm sure I'll be okay once someone looks at my ear.> She hugged her dragon tightly. <And thank you for saving us.>
Staggering a little and squinting at the bright sunlight, she began wading through the grass towards the acting Warrenlady. Lost in thought, she never noticed Touth approaching her.
"Are you okay, Lady A'Rillia? Did you need a medic?"
"Yeaagh!" The woman jumped back about a foot and crouched into a fighting positon out of reflex. Seeing it was only Touth, she grimaced with embarrassment and chuckled. "I'm sorry sir, ye scared me half to death. Now that you mention it, I probably could stand to get looked at."
The healer pointed to her ear and the blood crusted along her earlobe. "When we were trying to get out, Daetyn... lost me... and started screaming. I think there may be a broken blood vessel in here somewhere."
"Lost?" Touth looked confused. He was still trying to figuire out where the Queenrider had come from. Everyone said she'd left the Warren. Many had suggested she was dead.
"I don't quite get it either," the healer replied. "We could hear each other, and then she couldn't hear me and started screaming and then all of a sudden I couldn't hear her anymore. I must have run right through one of those pockets everyone's been muttering about since I got back."
He shrugged, "You can hear her now?"
Arri nodded. "I really should tell Carie I'm all right first. Where's the medical department?"
Touth pointed off to his left where a few unknown riders were pitching a large canopy near the edge of ...well, it seemed like a Green, but was more unkempt than any she'd ever encountered in her time.
"Okay Touth. Now, I promise I will get this looked at. But for now, this is more important."
The elder rider threw up his hands in defeat. "Very well. But if you can, they could use the help of a skilled medical technician. Most of them are a little new at this and specialize in bandages and washcloths."
The healer nodded and Touth headed over to greet a new arrival landing nearby. At least someone had thought to snag some medical supplies on the way out. Or maybe Lakoda was here already, if the gods were feeling kind.
<:Ribbon is not here yet. I can't feel her anywhere. Fiera, Yenal, Grall... and someone else is nearby, but I think they're hurt and I don't recognize them.:> supplied her dragon helpfully. The healer ignored the unspoken question mark after T'rend's dragon. Anything that was there was surely gone after a year and a half and she didn't want to open old wounds. She had seen the possessive look in Baeta's eyes before she left.
Arri nodded and finally got within earshot of Carie. The first thing they had to do was find some way to cut the grass in here. This was okay if you had wings, but...
"Carie!"
The young Warrenlady turned, face haggard, and smiled weakly. "Thank goodness you made it all right. We've got a sort of medical station going over there. Thank goodness some of the flight dragons have to carry medical supplies at all times."
Arri finally reached the young woman's side. "I know." Touching her ear absently, she added, "I'll need some attention myself."
Carie's eyes widened. "What happened?"
The healer shrugged. "Daetyn started yelling. I never knew how loud a dragon could be before. I think I may have a broken blood vessel or two. I know I have a nasty, nasty headache. I can hear out that side, but it's ringing a lot and everything's a bit flat."
Arri looked at Carie for a long moment. "Do you think everyone made it in time?"
The sound of the wind tangling in the grass filled the space between them.
"I'm trying not to think about that right now," replied the acting Warrenlady quietly as she turned away to stare across the wildflower scattered field. "I'm trying not to think at all right now. Just for a few minutes."
The healer could understand. "I'll go help the folks in medical and leave you for a while. I just wanted to report in. If you need me..."
Carie nodded solemnly, "I know Arri."
"Oh, and Carie? We need to do something about the grass. Untamed is nice and all, but it's really hard to get around in." The healer smiled softly and Carie finally laughed.
<Dae, can you give me a lift? That's looking like an awfully long walk through this muck.>
The dragon landed as close to Arri as she could and nodded respectfully to the acting Warrenlady as her rider mounted. Daetyn didn't bother teleporting, it wasn't far enough, she just flew the healer over to the tent.
<:Jindalie just arrived with supplies,:> said Dae as she backed off, <:I'm going to go find a snack. Will you be okay?:>
"Lady A'Rillia..." An unfamiliar face peered out of the tent, "Thank goodness. We really do need a proper doctor in here in case anyone shows up hurt. Could you...?"
She nodded at the rider. <Go ahead, Dae. I'll be fine.>
"Yes, I'm here to help. My dragon tells me Jindalie just arrived with supplies. Could a couple of you go help her? And I'll need a washcloth for this." The healer pointed at her ear. "It doesn't hurt, but it's annoying."
The unfamiliar rider grabbed someone's arm and they headed out to meet Jindalie and Baeta. A third rider handed Arri a damp cloth and the healer sighed to herself.
What had they gotten themselves into?
=======================================
NRPG: Well, it'a not much of a post, but she's there and she's talked to a few people. Happy now? *grinning at Lynette* Sorry about the liberties, but I assumed that there would have been a few dragons packed with emergency medical supplies at all times in case of Wraithings during a flyover and they just happened to get out with their payload intact. Chris: I hope I did Carie okay. Arri's in the medical tent if anyone needs her for anything.
