<<Meena, the Warrenlady would like to meet you after lunch. Sirus
and Parse's riders have been invited as well.> Vonn called to
her during lunch.
<<Tell her I'll be there.>

She turned to see A'shair with the common far off look that came when one
spoke to dragons. When his eyes focused on her again, he said, "Shall we
finish lunch and go see what the Warrenlady needs of us."
She nodded, having no idea why Naomi would be calling them now. She was
glad that Demee was with Hered so she didn't have to worry about him.
"What do you suppose she wants?"
A'shair shook his head, "I don't know."
Soliel looked at them curiously, and Meena smiled at her. "There's no
need for us to hurry off. I've not had much chance to talk to you, though
I enjoyed your music at the hatching party the other night. Are you
settling in alright?"
<<<<NRPG: Mikki, fell free to fill in any conversation you
might like to.>>

When they finished their lunch Meena and A'shair bid Soliel good-bye.
A'shair smiled at the girl, "I hope we can play again."
Meena grinned, "I agree you two were wonderful."
Soliel blushed, "I enjoyed it. I'll look forward to playing again."
A'shair and Meena headed to Naomi's office. Reaching the door they
knocked and entered when they heard her acknowledgment. G'raint was
already sitting when they entered. He stood and offered his seat to
Meena. She sat down and waited patiently to hear what the Warrenlady had
to say.
"I hope you don't mind, I've already taken the time to discuss this with
G'raint. But I need your input as well, Meena, because it impact's your
family and A'shair because you are wingsecond to T'grat."
Meena was suddenly worried, "Did something happen to Greta?"
Naomi shook her head, "No not exactly. I spoke with Lacey, and she says
that Greta and her children have the affinity."
"But how could she know. Alyne wasn't even here at the hatching." Meena
protested.
Naomi could already see that the news was upsetting to the young mother
and she could understand that. "Actually, she noticed the first time they
were here, but wasn't sure how to approach the issue, knowing that it
would probably upset you."
"You know, Naomi, Lacey is still so young, perhaps she was mistaken."
"I suppose it's possible, Meena, but I've already discussed this with
M'lent, and he trusts her talent."
Meena wilted a bit, "What are you going to do?"
"I don't know, that's part of the reason I asked you here to discuss
this."
A'shair spoke up, "I'm assuming you asked me here, because of how this
effects T'grat."
"Yes. You and G'raint are closer to him then anyone else here in the
warren."
Meena spoke again, "But Greta's too old to join. She's already 25."
Naomi, nodded, "That's true. It is highly unlikely that she would join
based on her age. However her children are not to old."
"Naomi, Lord Harkon is not going to allow you to take a second heir from
him. Especially now that Lars has been accepted legally as his heir."
Meena protested again. "And I doubt that Naomi would leave Lars with him
anymore then I was going to leave Demee with him."
"I know, Meena."
"Why do we have to do anything about this. Things are good like they are.
We should cause any problems. Not now." Meena pleaded.
"Meena, we are not going to allow Harkon to take Demee. You don't have to
worry about that. But this has to do with our prospects for dragonriders.
The affinity is not that common, that we can just pass up possible
candidates." Naomi said calmly, "But on top of that there is a bigger
issue. Greta's happiness. I watched her while she was here this last
time. She is not happy. Harkon is making her life miserable. Not to
mention T'grat mooning away here without her."
Meena nodded. She had known that things were not easy for Greta with
Harkon. She could remember how it had been when he had found out about
Devon.

"Carameen, You will ~not~ see that boy again, do you hear me!"
Her face covered in tears stared at him defiantly, "No! You can't stop
me!"
Her father stared at her, his face red, his angry eyes boring holes
through her, "He is the son of a poor cobbler and not worthy of your
station. I will find you a worthy husband. I guarantee it will not be
him."
"No! I'm going to marry Devon."
She cringed as the hand hit her cheek stinging painfully, "Don't speak
back to me young lady! I've already spoken to several Lords with eligible
sons. I will pick one that will make a good match for you."
She sobbed, "I can't. .. I can't marry anyone else .."
"You can and you will! I did you raise you to be some poor man's whore."
He roared. "You will listen to me, or I'll make sure that there is no way
you'll ever see him again. I will get rid of him if I have to. Mark my
words, Carameen, if you don't want to see him dead, you will listen to
me."
Her eyes grew wide.

She had run away. Greta didn't have that luxury. She again had the pangs
of guilt that came, knowing that she had put Greta in a situation that
she herself had found intolerable. She was being selfish and she knew
it.
"Meena?" asked Naomi looking at the young woman's far away gaze.
Meena looked at her, shaking the memory from her head, "Naomi, if you
tell Harkon and you bring Greta and her children here, it is going to
cause more problems then just Demee. I mean if you keep Lars from being
Harkon's heir you could keep Demee from him for the same reason." Meena
paused. "But Harkon isn't going to understand that."
"I know, which is why this is such a big problem." Naomi said.
"Well, knowing full well that this is selfish, I think we should wait. We
are not anywhere near another hatching yet. Garnet is probably still a
while from rising again, unless Kiriath rises again, which is highly
unlikely as she hasn't risen in over a year. Can't we wait until there is
a need." Meena looked at Naomi with hopeful eyes.
Naomi nodded, "I know what you are saying, Meena. But that only puts off
the inevitable. Eventually there will be another clutch and we will need
to face this decision again."
Meena nodded, knowing that Naomi was right. Of course Lars and Alyne were
too young to worry about, but there was a slim possibility for Greta,
despite her age. Should they really prevent her from having her chance.
