Naomi linked arms with Lacey, and the two  headed towards the dining hall
for their much delayed breakfast.


"When are going to start training with M'lent, Lacey?  Naomi asked as they
walked  "I think we need to get something started as soon as possible...."


"I hadn't really thought about it very much yet, " Lacey said  "I know I'm
needed but I have so little free time as it is and....."


"And what?"  Naomi questioned


Lacey was quiet for a moment, eyes unfocused, almost dreamy.  When she
finally did speak it was about something completely different.


>"Naomi" Lacey said "Are you going to invite Darrkon to stay?"


Here was the reason for Lacey's distraction this morning.  She looked at her
sister's face, hoping she was mistaken... but the brightness of her eyes and
the hopeful smile....


"I think so.  Why?"  She held her breath as she answered.

>"I like him. He is very nice" Lacey said "Besides, both our dragons like

Naomi sighed with regret.  She was right, Lacey -was- interested in Darrkon.


"Yes, Amethyst is quite taken with him.  I expect she'll get over it when
she next rises to mate though.  You know how fickle a dragon can be in her
affections."  she said  "Just be careful Lacey.  He's lived alone for a long
time..... he may not stay."


*I am -not- fickle Naomi.*  Amethyst said, disgruntled  *Calindeth is a fine
figure of a dragon and would make a good sire for my clutch.  It will bring
new blood into the Warren too.  
 

*Besides... I thought you were interested in Darrkon?*  Amethyst said slyly  


*Oh I am... I mean was.*  she thought back  *But Lacey's my sister, and I
could never deliberately hurt her.  If she likes Darrkon too then I'll have
to stay silent about my interest.*


*No matter how I try I will never understand humans.*  Amethyst thought,
exasperated  



*I'd give up trying if I were you love.*  her thought was teasing  *I'm
human and I don't understand us.  What chance do you have?*

The sisters had almost finished breakfast when Lacey said hesitantly


>"Naomi, lately my telepathy seems to be expanding. I have been hearing a 
>few of the other dragons, especially when the excitement is high, like it 
>was at hatching & a few other times" Lacey said "Also, I believe there is 
>a chance, Darrkon might be a mild telepath. I heard him yell at his 
>dragon to Shut up last night....it startled me. Thought at first he was 
>talking to me. Was it this way with you? or what do you think is happening"

"Hm... It's hard to remember a time when I -couldn't- talk with the
dragon's, but..."  Naomi paused, thinking  "Yes it did start like that.
First it was just when I was upset  about something, and only with a few
dragons.  Then I started hearing a few dragons all the time, especially if I
concentrated hard.  After that it was easy... think about  a particular
dragon and I could hear them and talk to them."


"Yes... that's what's been happening to me.  Do you think it'll get stronger
eventually, Naomi?"


"I'm not sure Lacey.  I don't understand it... I just use it.  And I've
never understood why I can't make humans hear me."  Naomi smiled at her
sister  "Well except for you of course... and then only rarely.  I know it
gets easier with practice though.  Have you thought about practising a bit?"


"Oh no.. More 'training' to take up my time."


Naomi laughed at the disgusted face her sister made.


"At least you don't have to do combat training too.  That really would take
-all- your time."  


"Somehow that doesn't give me much comfort Naomi..."  Lacey said
