Naomi stirred as the cool breeze that blew across the lake touched her skin
with chill fingers.  She moved slightly, but was trapped by an unfamiliar
weight across her stomach, and she hissed as sand-abraded areas of skin
revealed themselves as she tried to free herself without waking the man with
her.  Finally she managed to wriggle from under him, and propped herself on
an elbow to see who she had shared such intense pleasure with...


The moonlight was gone now, and for a moment she saw nothing where his face
should be... then she realised she viewed the smooth blandness of Darrkon's
mask.  She sat rigidly upright as she suppressed a gasp of shock.  Of all
the men... why did it have to be this one?  The only man her sister had ever
expressed an interest in....


She sought the comfort of her dragon's thoughts and found only sleepy
contentment and fulfilled lust.  The image of the large grey Calindeth still
uppermost in Amethyst's thoughts,  and broody feelings as she contemplated
the eggs that would result from this mating.  Not wanting to spoil her
dragon's peacefulness just yet, she rose as silently as she could and went
down to the water's edge to wash the sand from her tender body.


Stroking strongly towards the middle of the lake she thought of what she
could say to her sister about what had happened.  Would she understand that
it had meant nothing to Darrkon ?    Would Lacey be able to separate dragon
inspired lust from love?  <*Can you?*  a small still voice asked in the
depths of her mind>  Thoughts whirling madly she swam back to shore.  She
had to get back to the Warren and talk to Lacey before she found out from
anyone else....


*Amethyst... I need you to come and get me.*


*Can you not wait?*  Amethyst grumbled sleepily  *I am tired, and I would
like to sleep.*


*Please love... it's important that I get back and talk to Lacey.*  Naomi
told her  *There will be plenty of time to sleep in the coming days.*


*Oh very well.*  Amethyst agreed with bad grace  *But only because I love
you....*


*Thank you my love.  I promise I won't forget this.*    


*I will hold you to your promise.* the dragon said slyly  *I come....*


With a sigh of relief, Naomi settled herself on the sand to wait and think.
Lacey would understand... she had to.  After everything she'd been taught
she would have to know there was nothing Naomi could have done to stop
this... <*even if you'd wanted to?*  the small voice asked, and she pushed
it firmly aside>


A glimpse of movement caught her attention and she looked over to where
Darrkon lay... still asleep, or so it seemed, but the glitter of his eyes
behind the mask he wore told her he was awake and watching her.....


"Good morning."  she said in a soft voice.  "Amethyst and Calindeth should
be here soon to take us back to the Warren..."

<T'grat>


The unaccustomed weight resting on his shoulder brought T'grat slowly awake,
and with wakefulness came the memory of the previous night.  He looked at
the girl who shared his bed and felt a stirring of renewed arousal... She
was beautiful and talented and he wanted to spend more time with her...get
to know her better... make love to her again.


He kissed the corner of her mouth gently, teasing her with the tip of his
tongue and was rewarded with a slow smile.  His hands began exploring, and
she moaned with pleasure.


"Greedy man.  Wasn't last night enough for you?" she laughed gently as
slipped from the bed  "There's a lot to do today and I have the children to
see to as well.  I can't expect Meena to care for them forever."


He caught her hand as she moved past him, and tried to pull her down beside
him but she resisted, and started to dress.


"Come on... I'll make you some breakfast."  she laughed at the
disappointment on his face, and blew him  a kiss as she left the room.
"There will be other times....."


*I hope so* he thought as he dressed for the day ahead  *I really hope so.....*

Having searched the entire warren without finding a sign of Lacey, Naomi was
at her wits end.  Obviously someone had already told Lacey who had won
Amethyst's mating flight and she was hiding herself away hurt by it.


*Please Amethyst... talk Garnet again.*  Naomi begged her dragon  *Tell
Garnet I need to know that Lacey is safe.*


*Garnet says that Lacey will be safe with her protection but Lacey is upset
and will not talk to you just yet.*  Amethyst was obviously puzzled by
Lacey's behaviour.  


Upset by her sisters refusal Naomi attempted something she rarely tried...
concentrated hard she thought at her sister...

Kat... I had no idea how upset Lacey would be so I left it vague.

Kris... I loved the byplay with the dragons.  I must be as hard on the
unsuccessful dragon as on the male rider  LOL!
