Traveler's Rest 

        Piper sat at the side of the inn, watching her Uncle play the lute,
her chance would come at the next song.  Her palms were damp.  She had
played the song thousands of times, but never in front of an audience.  

        The girl brushed her dark hair back over her shoulder and took
several deep breaths as the experienced bard completed the story song and
took a deep bow to his audience.  

        Now it was her turn.  Piper barely heard the introduction that
Jenero gave her.  She concentrated on remembering the first line.
Hopefully, once she began to play, she would lose herself in the music.  

        The lute began, Jenero plucking the strings in a haunting melody.
Piper touched her full lips to the tiny metal instrument, a set of pipes
that she had fashioned herself.  The equally haunting countermelody floated
from the stage, and then Jenero, with his glorious baritone voice sang of
dragons and fire and love.

        Piper felt the eyes of the room upon her, but as she hoped, the
beauty of the song carried her away with it, and she no longer felt the
nervousness grip her.   

        And someone who watched was extremely interested in the young woman.
A hatching was approaching.
