When Soliel left the hatchling barracks, Sâephan was waiting for her.
Soliel froze when she saw him, and as he made his way toward her, she
made a quick check to see that her knifes were securely hidden from
Sâephanâs view.
"Sâephan· can I help you with something?" Soliel questioned as she
walked in the direction of Naomiâs office.
"Well· I thought I could take you on a tour of the Warren. Its still
early, Iâm sure Naomi wonât miss you, and besides, most havenât ever
risen from their beds." He smiled. Soliel frowned slightly,
understanding the double meaning in Sâephanâs words.
Smiling at him she said, "Iâd really love to Sâephan, but I really must
go see Naiomi. I donât want to shirk my responsibilities. Some other
time perhaps? Iâm sure that some of the other newly joined might like a
tour, we could make a group of it!" She smiled jovially to take the
sting out of her words. The last thing she wanted to do was make an
enemy.
"well then, let me wish you a good day! If you want a tour, come find
me." Nodding her head, she watched Sâephan walk away.
************
"Soliel!" Soliel turned to see Naomi walk up to her.
"I didnât see you. My apologies."
"Come walk we me to my office." Soliel agreed and they walked in silence
for a few moments before Naomi continued. "You handled yourself well
there. If Sâephan approaches you again, are you capable of dealing with
him again?"
Soliel smiled slightly, "Moving from inn to inn to inn, well, I had to
learn to defend myself from unwanted.. attention." She showed Naomi the
two small knifes she kept hidden in her clothes. "Even so, I would much
rather be friends than enemies."
"How do you like it here at Norwall Warren?" Naomi asked.
Soliel beamed with happiness, "Sometimes its hard for me to believe that
I have joined with such a wonderful little dragon as Firen is, " Soliel
paused and laughed. "I find myself pinching my arm every few hours to
see if this is a dream or not. It has been so long since I have had a
home· did you know that it has been 2 years since iâve had a place to
call home. Ever since÷" Soliel paused, not wanting to continue, but
knowing that she should tell the WarrenLady. "This isnât something that
I speak of often·."
"You donât have to speak of it if you donât want to Soliel. I can see
how upset it makes you." Naomi said softly.
"No, its okay. As WarrenLady, you have a right to know·. When I was 16,
we were on a trip to see my Uncle. While I was off in the woods
gathering firewood, Wild dragons killed my family. I was the only
survivor. I.. donât get along well with my Uncle, and so, instead of
going to him, I became what I never wanted to be, a Bard. Ironic, isnât
it? In the last 2 years, I have sang in more inns than you could
imagine. If I hadnât been in that Travelers Rest when MâLent found me·."
Soliel let her voice trail away. It was a minute before she continued.
"But now! Now I have a permanent home, maybe even a family.." She looked
hopeful.
"We will all be youâre family Soliel." Naomi said.
"Thank you Naomi, it means a lot to me." Soliel paused. "Oh dear!"
"What is it?"
"Firen is awake.. and she is quite hungry·."
"Go on, feed your dragon, and make sure to feed yourself!" Naomi said,
shooing Soliel from her office.
Soliel said her farewells and headed back to the hatchling barracks.
