Day before council meeting

Darrkon returned to his apartment after his meeting with Lacey. Excited
and annoyed about what had just happened. <I almost told her today
Calendeth. For the first time since I was five years old I almost said
those words.>

<You've almost done al ot lately.> His dragon answered with none of the
enthusiasm Darrkon expected.

<What are you talking about?> The reply had really thrown Darrkon off,
he quickly forgot about his news.

<You almost got us kicked out when you disobeyed proceedure, I know you
did the right thing but you should have expected others to disagree.>

<You mean T'grat? He is of no concern. From now on I'll follow orders
and stay out of his way, as long as he stays out of mine there's no
problem.>

<That's another thing. You alomst got us banished when you were about
to kill T'grat.>

<What?> Now Darrkon was really thrown for a loop. <I was never about
to...>

<When he hit you, you reached for your boot dagger. If not for
Amethyst's roar, you would have thrown it.> Calindeth was very stern,
not like a parent but like a colleague who knows their friend was out of
control.

Darrkon didn't want to admit the truth <Come on I wasn't going to kill
him.>

But his dragon wouldn't let up <I know your thoughts Darrkon, you cannot
decieve me, do not decieve yourself.>

They had had discussions like this in the past especially about
Darrkon's desire to join a warren, and Calindeth usually, actually
always turned out to be right. Darrkon asked himself if he was really
that out of control. <Maybe you're right, maybe I was going to throw
the dagger. I don't think I was but just in case, what could be doing
this?>

<That I cannot answer. And in this case I think a human would be better
in helping you find out. Since they wouldn't pick up your thoughts.
The human, Lacey, she will do. She has helped you with other problems,
perhaps she can help you in this.>

<You're really starting to take a liking to her aren't you?> Darrkon
asked his dragon while climbing onto his back.

<She's fine for a human. Although some of the things you think about
her a confusing.>

<We're not getting into that again. Just accept thee fact that you'll
never understand us completely.> The dragon took off from the apartment
and landed on the green. <I have a few things to do before I meet
Lacey, maybe you should go hunting or check on those kids of yours.>
Darrkon said teasing.

<They are all fine.> Calindeth answered <Except Ryloth. But he is of
my line so I am sure he will grow to be strong.>

An unseen smile spread across Darrkon's face <Whatever you say.>

<..>

Lacey's apartment

Darrkon dismounted from Calindeth and watched as the dragon took of from
the ledge. Lacey walked up to him smiling and looking completely
recovered from the wraith attack.

<He never seems to stay.> Lacey said to him as she lead him to her
living room.

<Calindeth has settled in nicely here. But he hasn't grasped the finer
points of small talk.> Darrkon felt his heart speed up as they say on
the couch. No matter how many times he say Lacey or how much time they
spent together, being near her and knowing that she was his, always sent
his heart racing. He could spend an eternity like this.

<Something he picked up from his rider no doubt.> Luaghing at her jibe,
he though of how much he'd changed in just a few months. Then he
thought of the recent negative changes.

He was about to bring them up
when he noticed a small bundle on her table. <Going somewhere?>

<Yes, Naomi and I will be going to Keldarra for a little while. There's
a big meeting of all the warrenladies going on. It should only be for a
day or two. It'll give me a chance to meet all of the warrenladies, and
their seconds though. I've heard rumors about a few of them, it could
prove fun to find out if any of them are true, if time allows.> Lacey
began telling him about some of the things she had heard, and he shared
some of the stories he had picked up before he joined the warren. They
spent the rest of the time before her departure with "did you hear"s and
"what if"s never getting to the subject Darrkon had intended on talking
about. He was having so much fun his troubles never again crossed his
mind.
