Meena
***
Meena reluctantly left Naomi alone with Demee. It wasn't that she was
afraid the Warrenlady would hurt the boy, but she hated the thought of the
boy going through all the pain of remembering yesterday again. One thing
she definitely hated was seeing the terrified eyes of her son.
However, she went into the kitchen to finish dinner, leaving Naomi to talk
to the boy. She couldn't help but hope Naomi would find the whole telepathy
thing to be a fluke. Perhaps it was simply a phase of his growing. While
her heart continued to hold out hope, her mind knew that it wasn't a fluke.
***
>"My pleasure. I like kids Meena... and I since I have none of my own to
spoil...." Naomi smiled, but her eyes showed her sadness at the lack.
"Have you ever thought of having more someday?..."
>When Meena didn't answer immediately Naomi bit her tongue hard, and pushed
her chair back, ready to retreat in embarrassment
>"I'm really sorry Meena. I didn't mean to be so nosy." she flushed
"Throw me out....."
"It's not a problem, Naomi." Meena smiled lightly, "Of course, I could ask
you the same thing. I know you like kids, wouldn't you like one of your own?"
"Ouch!" laughed Naomi, "Very good point."
Meena chuckled. Then she stood and began to clear the table, "Besides, I
know I'll never have anymore children." she said quietly.
Naomi frowned, "Why is that?"
Meena faced the Warrenlady with sad brown eyes, "Because Devon is gone."
"Meena," Naomi whispered. "Don't you think you're too young to be thinking
like that?"
"I suppose, but I can't get beyond it. Even three years later." As she
continued to clear the table she spoke, a quiet, sad calm to her voice. "I
wake up every morning, thinking about him. I go to bed every night, the
same. And Demee .. I have only to look into his eyes to see Devon looking
back at me. How could I possibly think of loving another?"
***
Meena was asleep almost as soon as her head it the pillow. Her dreams once
again filled with images of Devon ..
***
"Your going to fly today, Meena," said the voice which always sent warm
shivers down her spine. She smiled happily as she turned to see Devon
standing behind her.
She grinned, "I know. Lilliana's already cleared it with T'grat!" While
Devon had been flying for several days now, Meena had been ordered to stay
grounded until Lilliana pronounced her healthy enough to fly. Meena had
felt more then up to it for several days, but Lilliana was adamant that she
needed more then a weeks recovery from the birth of her son before she
should attempt to fly.
He drew her into his arms and kissed her, "Life is good, Meena."
"Yes, it is," she agreed. Then she grinned mischievously. "Of course it's
better for you because you've had the chance to fly Xanith already."
He laughed, "Ah, but it's your turn today, my love," He looked around the
hatchling barracks, "And tonight .." she couldn't mistake the glint in his
eye, "Tonight we will sleep in our own apartment high above the floor of
the warren."
***
Meena smiled in her dreams as she snuggled deeper into her pillow.
***
The two riders soared through the air as Meena laughed. <I told you it
would be incredible, Meena. It's been no fun flying without you.> Vonn told
her.
<I've wanted to, dear Vonn.> She looked over at the Olive green dragonet
and his very handsome rider as the flew circles around the skies of the
Warren.
<Malachite is calling us down. His rider is afraid I'll strain myself,>
snorted Vonn.
<Do as he says, Vonn.> ordered Meena. <I'll not be the cause of any
strained muscles.>
<I would never strain a muscle!> Vonn said, but circled down to the green,
with Xanith right behind her.
Devon slid off his dragon's back and ran to Meena as she slid off Vonn's.
He scooped her up and swung her around. "Wasn't it fabulous!"
Meena laughed, "It was! It was everything you said it would be."
"You did very well, Meena," said T'grat coming up behind the two. "So did
Vonn."
"Thank you, T'grat,"
"T'grat, don't you think it's about time we learn to teleport?" asked Devon
eager to move on in their training.
T'grat frowned at the eager young man, "Soon enough, Devon. Perhaps
tomorrow. But that a very serious thing, and I want to make sure you are
all ready before we start that."
"I'm ready," said Devon with a grin.
His grin was infectious and soon Meena and T'grat chuckled. "I know you
are. But remember not until I tell you it's okay."
Devon looked a little deflated, but nodded.
Meena comforted him, "Tomorrow will be soon enough, love. Let's go get
Demee. I'm missing that baby already."
Devon's grin came back, "Me too." Then he paused, I'm going to take one
more quick flight around the warren. Xanith still needs his wings
stretched. Just cause that was enough flying for you and Vonn, doesn't mean
it was enough for us." His dark eyes twinkled and Meena smiled.
"All right, I'll wait for you at Rybeth's. Then we go apartment hunting."
He kissed her gently, and whispered, "How could I forget."
***
Meena tossed in her sleep, mumbling, " .. no .. no .."

(Taken directly out of the archive from my first Norwall post of May 18, 1996)
Rybeth was rocking Demee when Meena walked in to pick him up. She had been
at training with the other hatchlings, but was now had time to spend with
her infant son. She was in an excellent mood as she and Vonn had flown for
the first time today. It was completely exhilarating. She was sad to see it
end, but also wanted to get back to Demee. Devon had stayed to fly a bit
longer with Xanith. Though he promised to be back soon.
"How was your day today, Meena?" asked the older woman.
"Excellent, Rybeth." She smiled, "But I'm so glad to see you again," she
gurgled at the baby as she took him from the woman's arms.
There was a loud keening from the dragons, and an agonized call from Vonn,
<Meena, Xanith is gone...>
Rybeth took the baby again as Meena began to swoon, <What, Vonn... What
happened.>
<Xanith missed... he and his rider tried to teleport and they missed.>
<What are you saying?! Where did they teleport to?> her thoughts screamed.
<Nowhere... they teleported nowhere....>
***
Tears streaked their way down Meena face dampening the pillow where her
head rested.
Regards,
Meena & Vonn
