[DL-N] Waking from a Coma
by
Michelle D. Pacheco <mpacheco@seattleu.edu>

Firen moved restlessly in her rooms, the non-metallic red gold of her
skin muted by her depression. She was worried about her rider, who had
been in a coma since that fateful day nearly two months ago, when the
strap on her riding harness had snapped, sending her plummeting towards
the ground. Soliel had broken her wrist and collar bone,a few of her
ribs, and was cut and bleeding from where she landed. But worse even than
this, she had hit her head on a rock, sending her into the darkness she
was still in. Firen had tried time and again to reach her, but it was as
if she was in so much pain, she did not want to return.

Lilliana was speaking to Naomi in the Med Center. Soliel, her auburn hair
dull, and her skin pale as paper against the pillows. She had been in the
coma for nearly two months. She had lost weight, and her face and body
looked thin and frail.

"I'm worried about her Naomi. Her broken bones have healed, and even the
scars are fading. She's in perfect health, nearly, but doesn't want to
wake up."

Naomi turned and walked towards Soliel's bed. If it hadn't been for how
pale and thin she was, she would guess the girl sleeping. "I don't know
Lilliana, has Firen tried to reach her?"

Lilliana nodded unhappily. "Tried and failed. Its as if the girl has
erected a wall around her mind, and doesn't want to leave the shelter."
She turned to Soliel, and said, "come on girl! Buck up! You can make it
back to us!! Your warren needs you, and your dragon needs you! If you
die, so will she!"

Soliel seemed to stir at this, the obvious concern for ehr dragon
penetrating deep into her mind, but it did not quite wake her.

Naomi sighed. "Soon perhaps, she will wake, i know she will not let Firen
down."

Soliel hated the otherlands. She knew something was wrong, but not what.
She felt seperated from her body, seperated from Firen. She tried, time
and again to reach out to her, but it was as if she was blocked by
something. THe... place... she was in change with her thoughts. At once
moment a forest, at another, her childhood home. She couldn't tell how long
she had been in this place, but she could feel that her friends were
worried, and that Firen was worried. Each time she felt closer to the
waking world, she would be drawn down another path, through another
coridor of the maze. It was frustrating and angering.

But at last, she was returning. All she needed was one more push, and
then she would be back....

**TAG!!** If anyone would like to "push" Soliel into waking, please,
continue this. Other wise, i'll write something in a few days! Feel free to
"interact" or come see her in teh med center!
