[DL-N] Finding Ones Place

[Zera]
"Staffing arrangements here are Lilliana's concern... subject to my veto,
but I usually bow to Lilliana's judgement where medical staff is concerned
anyway. Hm! There's no shortage of patrol pairs in either wing so there's
reason why you shouldn't continue here. In fact you'd be a big help when
an unconscious rider is brought in... Mazel will be able to find out from
the injured rider's dragon just what the problem is and that means less
time guessing what the problem is, and more time actually treating the
rider.
"Have you had any experience with treating injuries to dragons?" Naomi
asked hopefully
Zera shook her head regretfully. "No, not really, but I'm more than
willing to study the subject. I am, however, very conversant with Wraith
injuries and have developed some newer medications that minimize both the
healing time and scarring... Most of them require plants from the Wastes,
but I can grow most of those myself. The only other thing that's very
important to me is that I still have time to study Wraiths..."
Naomi nodded, eyes thoughtful. "Remember what I told you about the efforts
at Marrid?"
Zera cocked her head to the left, brushing her hair away from the scars.
"Aye, I do. Do you still think I should go there?"
"Well, their efforts have been abandoned, but..."
"I could learn a lot from whatever notes... or whatever... that are left,"
said Zera, nodding. Then she snorted in disgust. "The Gods know that I
haven't been getting much of anywhere with my current line of inquiry.
It's like... Oh, I don't know... like there's something behind their
movements that's so... alien... that I can't quite grasp what it's
doing..."
Naomi blinked at her and Zera gave a deprecating grin, flushing faintly.
"Anyway, any little bit would help."
The WarrenLady nodded, excusing herself gracefully as Zera turned her mind
to the idea of dragon healing. She went out into the other room, looking
for Lilliana. She and Domaia were sitting comfortably, sipping a cup of
tea.
"Hi," Zera smiled brightly. Lilliana poured an extra cup of tea, which
Zera accepted gratefully, sitting down. She looked over at the other girl,
concerned. "How are you feeling, Domaia? Your Lyric gave us all quite a
scare..."

[Afternoon, after training]
Zera lay out with her dragon on the Green after training was over, simply
enjoying the golden light of the afternoon.
Meena, with Galen, T'grat and someone she didn't recognize landed, all of
them looking very grim.
<< That's horrible! >> Mazel's incredulous exclamation rang loudly
through Zera's mind. << How could that be? >>
Zera sat up. < What is it, love? >
<< Malachite says that there is a plain covered with human dead. Why would
that be? >>
< What?!?! > Zera stared at her dragon, horrified. < But... >
Zera shook her head, placing a rein on her curiosity. < Mazel, we'll have
to wait for official news. >
