[DL-N] First Kiss

[Zera]
Zera stared up at Galen dazed, still tasting him on her lips and
finding herself wondering strange things that flushed her with heat
and chilled her at the same time. Was this passion? Desire? This
strange fire that touched her, racing along her skin where it came
into contact with this man?
She touched his face gently, as his fingers traced her scars. There
was no disgust in his eyes, no morbid staring, just a light, sweet
touch against raised ridges that had become violently sensitive.
This time she reached up, going on tip-toe to breathe a feathery kiss
across his lips...
Heat and spice; velvet wine as his mouth opened atop hers, capturing
a startled gasp... Gods, could anything feel like this? Her lungs
screamed for air but her brain dismissed the need, involved as it was
with the feel, the taste of the man... The musky scent, the salt and
spice and flavor... The silk of his hair beneath her fingers...
Need spiraled within her, hot and unfamiliar, as the physical demand
for oxygen overcame her helpless intoxication... addiction... to
Galen's mouth. Moaning softly she broke away, a tiny rational
portion of her mind screaming something she didn't want to
understand, but fighting it's way to the forefront of her thoughts.
Time. Poison. Children. Funeral.
Gasping for breath, she forced her eyes open, pupils dilating despite
the relative brightness of the sun. "Gods..."
Galen didn't say anything either, looking at least half as
dumbfounded as she felt, and she forced herself to drop her eyes to
his chest, trying not to focus on his mouth. She knew it was a
mistake as soon as her libido started asking her how his neck would
taste and visions of a healthy Galen in various states of undress
began flashing through her mind's eye.
"No..."
Galen pulled back and she looked back up at him, startled from her
reverie. There was hurt in his eyes, an uncomprehending pain that
vanished almost instantly. She recognized it instantly, that feeling
that came every time she entered a human settlement and found people
staring at her before turning away. Rejection, fear of rejection...
She knew it the way she knew her own soul.
"Galen... Oh, hells, I don't know how to say this... But we
can't..." She took a deep breath, forging on, hoping he would hear
the real why, not just hear her turning away from him. "...not right
now. We've got to go back soon. I'm on call... And they'll have
Greta's funeral tonight. I... I can't not be there. I..." Her
voice trailed off, not knowing how to say what she wanted to say, to
tell him how she felt, what she wanted...
Or what it had to do with the images in her mind's eye, pictures that
had Mazel giggling in the back of her head, giving Zera the
uncomfortable feeling that she was talking to any dragons in the
vicinity and probably all of the ones that weren't.
[Tag, Ben, and if you wanna take 'em home, go ahead... <eg>
