[DL-N] Taking an Afternoon Off

[Zera]
Paperwork. It was the bane of any good healer's life, though for the
moment Zera was grateful for the distraction of the stuff. Lars and
Alyne were finally making it to the far end of the tunnel, the raging
pain and screams fading away slowly. By this time tomorrow, the
poison would be purged from their systems and she thanked the gods
for that.
Damn Magendra and her insecurity. Greta, Lars, Alyne... It was
almost more than could be borne.
The door to her office opened, and she smiled, eyes lighting
instantly.
"Hey there gorgeous. Are you up to getting out of this place for a
while?"
Zera flushed under her mate's words, ducking behind a fall of fine
blond hair. Galen was the only person in the world who thought her
beautiful, and it was still hard to get used to that.
"What did you have in mind?" she asked, curios.
"My memory of that little place you know about is getting foggy. I
think it needs refreshing."
Zera smiled. "Hmmm. I think I could manage that. Lars and Alyne
are stable right now..."
"Thank Gods."
"And I think Lilliana is going to physically throw me out if I don't
get some rest."
"Rest?"
Zera stood up and walked around her desk with a slink that would have
embarrassed her if anyone other than Galen had been watching. "...or
whatever."
<...>
They appeared over the oasis, which apparently had received a fair
amount of rain, for the grasses around the deep, still pool were
brilliantly green and soft as silk.
"Oh..." Zera crooned with delight, pulling off her boots almost
instantly, letting the thick, deep carpet caress her feet.
"Wonderful..."
< Wanna swim! > Mazel demanded, and Zera laughed, pulling off the
dragon's saddle and turning the gold-dusted teal loose. Galen spread
out a blanket on the thick grass, opening a picnic basket.
"Mmmm... Food." Zera took a seat next to her lover, curling into
his side. She got a better look at the contents and smiled. "Finger
food, even better."
He snagged an apple slice, green and tart, and pressed it against her
lips. Zera smiled softly, and opened her mouth, allowing him to feed
her. She licked the juices off of his fingers and lifted another
tidbit from the basket to feed him.
It took a while to finish the food that had been provided,
particularly once the teasing and laughter started. It felt good to
laugh, to feel happy, to let the worries of the Warren fade away for
just the afternoon. One thing led to the next to the next -- much to
Mazel's amusement, stating that since her human had gotten such a
late start, it seemed that Zera was trying to make up for lost time.
Zera considered throwing something at her dragon, but decided against
it, feeling too comfortable and happy lying against her beloved.
"Galen?"
"Mmm?"
"Can I ask you something?" She arched her head up to look into his
eyes.
"Of course."
"You said you wanted to be able to do something... something that
didn't involve death... didn't you?" He nodded a bit, and she
plunged forward. "Have you considered becoming a healer...? I
mean... you care so much... have so much determination... I think
you have the soul for it..."
