{BackPost} Day 6 - Evening
Ralph yawned and rubbed his eyes a little. Gods, he wished he hadn't drawn
the night watch again. This was so blooming boring. Anybody coming in
would be coming in on a dragon, not through the front door. Who came in
through this door? Those caravan people ... maybe an odd traveler or two.
But most nights were spent just standing here, staring into the night. Ugh.
The traveler was almost on top of him when he snapped out of his daydream.
Ralph's eyes went over to the stranger's face and he almost jumped. The
man's eyes were completely black.
"Hello, sir." The voice was smooth, the type of voice you would expect an
angel to have. Ralph smiled and the man smiled back. He had a nice smile.
"Hello. Traveling late tonight aren't you?"
"No, just out for an evening stroll."
At Ralph's confused look, he added, "I'm with the caravan ... you don't
remember seeing me?"
Ralph shook his head and the man laughed ... a nice, relaxed laugh that said
'I'm not worried about anything'. "Don't worry about it ... happens to me
all the time. No one seems to remember me."
It crossed Ralph's mind that this man might not be telling the truth. But
even though his eyes were a little unreal, Ralph couldn't see any sort of
tenseness that might reveal a lie.
"Alright then, go on in. But don't be staying out too late ... some guards
might not let you in so easily."
The man smiled and went on through. A minute later, Ralph realized that he
coulnd't quite bring up the face in his memory. Just the eyes.

Sabian watched the dining room with a broad smile. There were a lot of
happy people here. Wasn't that nice.
He had to admit that the food here was pretty good. Made the deal a lot
easier. He'd had to scout out places before that had terrible food ... that
was a pain and a half.
He got up to leave and was walking across the dining room when he saw him.
For a half a second he could have sworn it was Renfield. But Renfield was a
pale, ghostly son of a bitch and this guy was fairly normal looking. Sabian
realized in that half second that his eyes must have been projecting intense
hatred, for when this man met his gaze, there was stark confusion all over
his face. Sabian turned his eyes from hating to disarming, smiled broadly,
and then left. The poor guy wouldn't know what to make of it, but he would
forget about it. They always did.

It didn't take long to pinpoint exactly how to get the front gate open once
it was closed for the night. He wouldn't even have to kill that many
people. Not that it really mattered. It was just a matter of effort and
this would be a small effort if done right. Which was nice.

Day 7 - Early Morning
You would be surprised how easy it is to wander around a place all night.
Just lie low for an hour or so and then once most people are asleep, just
stroll about. If you look like you know where you're going, nobody thinks
twice to ask you about it. Warren's were great places ... enough faces to
get lost in.
Sabian waited until the front guard changed and then made his way out. He
stayed on the main road until he was out of sight and then broke off.
Now he just had to find Ka'Laren, give him the information, then get back to
the Warren so he could do what was needed. There was still a part of him
that didn't like working under someone else, but he needed the money and the
work. Things had been a little dry since ... since ... Renfield.
No need to put himself in a foul mood so early in the morning, so Sabian
moved his thoughts to happier things. Ka'Laren was a good enough person to
work for ... as good as one could expect. Sabian thought he would probably
stay with this group for a little while ... until things became too hairy.
But with all that he had seen last night ... he didn't think there would be
any problems for a while.
Whistling softly to himself, Sabian made his way deeper into the woods.

The trees were thick and they easily disguised Sabian's movements. He
travelled quickly, dew settling on his garments as he brushed by the
undergrowth.
Almost suddenly, he came upon the small campfire. The eerie yellow light
flickered on the faces of the assembled figures in the dim morning light.
One or two looked up, the others had heard Sabian's nearly imperceptible
movements. Ahh, the company of assassins.
"He's there." Sabian said calmly to the one figure who stood off to the edge
of the firelight. The shadows concealed most of his appearance and he stood
with his back to the others. Most would have thought it foolish to turn
their backs on a group of trained killers, but not this man.
Without turning, he replied. "Good, take Amak and Paplin. Secure positions
in the Warren. Lord Harkkon has been seen riding towards Norwall. We will
take advantage of his approach and the Dragonrider's confusion. Wait for my
signal, Sabian."
Ka'Laren spun around. The yellowy light from the small fire seemed to dance
around the hideous black tattoos on his face, arms and chest. "No blood will
be spilled unless I give the word, understood?" He looked each of the three
assassins in the eye. "Go."
Sabian led the way back through the underbrush. He wasn't particularly
pleased with the men Ka'Laren assigned him. Amak was a violent thug and
Paplin was inexperienced. Still, they were silent movers, which will get you
far in the assassin business.
Sabian led the man and woman through the gates of the warren and they
silently melded into the busy crowds of Norwall, waiting for the sign from
their leader, Ka'Laren.
