>The two riders walked off away from the lake, soon deep in conversation.
The group at the beach watched for them leave.
>Then the young Cat stated loudly. "How rude, you poor thing Antwin, she
just gets up and deserts you!"
K'Tarr led the smaller rider into the dark forest. Soon, the sounds of the
other riders dwindled in the distance. The sounds of a calling bird and the
two riders breathing were all that could be heard.
Kalena stumbled over a twisted root that shot from the ground. She began to
tumble and yelped. K'Tarr's tightly muscled and tattooed arms flashed out
and gingerly caught the young girl under the arms. She looked up into the
hunter's inked face. K'Tarr's features were hidden by the shadows of the
forest, but she could tell he was silently smiling at her. He stood her up
again. "Are you alright?" He said softly.
"I'm fine, thanks to you." Kalena was happy that the sun had set so the
young man before her didn't see her blush. "So tell me about yourself,
K'Tarr Morrinn. Tell me your story."
K'Tarr pushed aside a bunch of creeper vines and looked past the foliage.
He smiled at Kalena, "Come on, this way." And he disappeared past the
vines.
K'Tarr stood in a small clearing. On the ground a soft grass had been
growing, dotted with a few flowers. The trees above parted just enough to
let the full moon's light in and give everything a silvery glow. Kalena
seemed to float into the little clearing that the hunter had found. K'Tarr
took Kalena's hands and sat down with her.
"I follow the way of the Hunter. I guess that's the most important thing
about me." He said after a moment.
"Mm-hmm. And what does that mean?" Kalena shyly played with her hair as
K'tarr talked.
K'Tarr looked at the young woman for a moment. His gaze seemed to climb
deep into her soul from behind his painted face. He leaned in quite close
to her face. She could smell the scent of dirt and trees and dragon on his
skin. "It means that when I hunt, I usually get what I want?"
