Day 11, evening

Sabian

"Well, I'm still trying to work off my debt to S'ron, which is why I'm
still here, but I thought I would give you another shot while I was
around.
Or if you want, I can just show you a few things."

He saw her eyes light up at that, but then the caution reappeared,
"Why are you doing this?"

"S'ron and K'tarr have left me without an answer to my offer of help
and I'm not leaving here until I get rid of that damned debt.  I don't
plan on
coming back to this part of the country while I leave.  So I'm staying
here until I'm sure I have no obligations . and I might as well spend
my
time doing something fun, right?  So what do you say?"

Cat appeared to think for a while.

"It couldn't do any harm, could it," she mused.

"And, after all, it's not as if S'ron could object, could he,"

Sabian shook his head, a slight smile on his face. He could see that
Cat had already made her decision, so why say anything?

"Because, when you think of it, it would make me more *useful* to the
warren, wouldn't it? Extra skills, added value and all that!"

"Oh yes, plenty of extra skills," said Sabian, well aware that the
kind of 'skills' he and Cat were thinking of were far from the kind of
skills Naomi, nor indeed Jeneve, would have wanted to see in Norwall's
dragonriders. And as for S'ron's opinion? Well, who was asking?

"So - when do we start?" asked Cat.

Cat walked away, a happy little smirk on her face.

Things weren't going too badly. The attack on her had badly shaken her
confidence, but this 'new project' gave her something else to think
about. Mr Purr had shown that he was alive and well, and S'ron was
back. She was getting some self-defence training. And she knew that
Kaymann had some interesting ideas in the pipeline...

She strolled back to her apartment, whistling softly to herself. And
put down a bowl of cat food  - fresh rabbit, scrounged from one of the
kitchen girls (Cat was avoiding Uncle at the moment, after the 'rat
incident').

<Expecting guests, are we?> Anthra's sarcastic mind-voice drifted from
the adjoining cavern.

*shut it, lizard!* replied Cat. *I'm in a good mood,*
