[DL-N] Close Observations

(Early morning, Day 12)
<snip>
Breezy's blue eyes returned the challenge. "You know S'ron I've imagine you
have some pretty good moves and good very well teach me some." Shaking her
head, "But considering the circumstances I doubt very much that's possible
at the moment. I don't think it would be beneficial if the wingleaders
ended up trying to beat each others brains out just to prove a point."
<end snip>
< Uh S'ron? >
* What is it Mak? *
< I know this sounds weird, but.don't. >
* Don't what? *
< Don't fight that human. Her dragon sort of asked me to ask you not to. >
* Sort of? *
< Well, > Makron's tone was tinged with amusement, < she kind of doesn't
like me. Can't imagine why not. But anyway, she was pretty secretive about
why she asked. >
* Hmmm. * S'ron looked at Breezy closely, noting her defiant stance and
flashing eyes. She was strong willed; he'd give her that. He sensed that
things would be a lot more interesting with her around. However, there was
something slightly out of place.
"You're probably right," S'ron said out loud, "us fighting wouldn't be a
good example to the others. There are a couple of people here that would
give you a good workout though." Noting the almost startled looks on Breezy
and Galen's faces, S'ron smiled inwardly. It was always good to be light on
your feet.
He went to walk over to the group of trainees and as he passed Breezy, he
pitched his voice down for her ears only.
"If you were going to be stupid enough to fight with a wound, no wonder
your dragon had to speak for you!" Breezy turned her head and glared at him.
"And I don't need you deciding what I should or shouldn't do either!" she
growled. S'ron smirked.
"Fine, but if you go around with a wound bleeding like that it won't heal
and Nash will annoy you more than I will." He straightened up and looked at
Galen. "Galen, I'll look over this lot for the moment. I think you better
keep a close eye on T'rell for a bit." The soldier nodded his agreement and
giving the two wingleaders a final curious look, turned and walked away.
S'ron picked himself a partner, a kid who he considered to he a
considerable prospect, and squared off with him. The workout was hard and
fast, but a great deal of it was automatic to him, which gave him time to
think about other things.
* Okay Mak, now perhaps you can tell me why this dragon, who only arrived
the other day, doesn't like you? *
< Well, I talked to her a few times, trying to get some information like
you asked. >
* And? *
< She's a snob, > Makron sniffed. < She thinks all males are unworthy of
her presence. >
* Oh? * S'ron chuckled mentally, as he ducked under a vicious sword swipe.
* I can't imagine why she'd think that. *
< Well, I don't care what she thinks, > Makron replied. < All females are
like that sometimes. You just have to show them that they're wrong. >
* And how do you plan to do that? *
< Not telling, > Makron replied smugly.
* Just make sure you tidy up afterwards, * S'ron told him. * And keep it
clean, okay? *
< Define 'clean', > Makron said innocently. S'ron sighed.
* Forget it, I don't want to know. * He ignored his dragon's mental chuckle
and set about teaching his opponent a few tricks. As Breezy had said, it was
never good to see your wingleaders get beat up, now was it?

(Later that day, perhaps after lunch)
"Pull up a chair gentleman. We've got a fair amount of work to do."
S'ron slouched back into his chair as K'tarr and Galen took theirs. S'ron
help up a piece of paper, and then let it fall back to the desk. "Here we
have a list of everyone who joined from the last hatching. We need to get
them all assigned to *something*, be it the wing or not. Before I say
anything, I'll ask what you guys have to say and any recommendations you may
have."
(Wil, Ben, here's your chance :)
"Okay," S'ron nodded, "nothing I can't live with there. I've got a
suggestion or two myself, but for the moment I want to run something else by
you."
"Like what?" K'tarr asked curiously.
"Like the possibility of a second dragon wing," S'ron replied, leaning back
in his chair and steepling his fingers under his nose. "The last few battles
have shown us that attacks from multiple sectors can disorientate the enemy
at crucial times and I'd like to see more of this. However, it would be
detrimental to break up a wing into two in this way, so perhaps a second
wing is the way to go."
"That's a decision the warrenlady would have to make," Galen pointed out. S
'ron nodded.
"I know. That's why I wanted to run it past you guys before I spoke to her.
Jeneve isn't stupid and I won't treat her as such, which is why I'd like to
have pros and cons weighed up before I take it to higher authority."
(Guys, feel free to add anything in here)
"You know S'ron," Galen said thoughtfully, "it might not be a bad idea to
get everyone together and discuss our overall strategy towards these
possible attacks. I know we've made plans for this and that, but."
".but we don't really have an overall picture of what we're going to do?" S
'ron finished. "Yeah, that would probably be a good idea. Especially since
Jeneve is now warrenlady, she might like to be briefed on what we're going
to do, for piece of mind if nothing else."
"Who are you talking about when you say 'everyone'?" K'tarr asked
curiously.
"In addition to ourselves," S'ron replied, glancing at Galen for
confirmation, "probably Jeneve and Breezy."
"Ah," K'tarr murmured, "thought as much."
"I'll pass the word on to Jeneve and see if we can get the meeting in
sometime tomorrow," S'ron said. "I'll let you know what time."
"Fine," Galen said with a nod. "Now, you said you had some ideas of your
own about the assignments?" S'ron nodded.
"Yeah. It's mostly to do with what I see as a position in the wings that we
've somewhat neglected. With all these attacks, all of them have come to us
unexpected. What I'd like to see happen is have some of the new riders
trained as scouts, dragonriders who have a sharp eye and good sense for
detail who would take on a sort of combat patrol duty, being the eyes and
ears for the rest of us. You get what I mean?" The other two nodded.
"I know exactly what you mean," K'tarr replied. "And it would be great to
have some people like that. I guess you had some riders in mind for the
position?"
"Well," S'ron said, "yes and no. As with Cyrus, it would both solve a
problem and help the rider fit in with being a dragonrider. Galen, have you
noticed that Alexandria seems to be a little uncomfortable around people?"
Galen thought for a moment, and then nodded.
"Yes, she is a little.well, it might be shyness. She works hard, but rarely
talks to me, or the others. Not quite sure what to make of her. Why did you
think of her?"
"Well," S'ron said with a grin, "I'm always on the lookout for talent in
certain areas. Someone who moves around quietly and keeps to themselves can
be quite useful if trained the right way. I get the impression that she'd be
lost in a wing, but might end up enjoying something like this. I'll have to
talk to her about it."
"Perhaps you talking to her wouldn't be the best idea," Galen said
dubiously. "I mean, she barely talks to me during training." S'ron waved it
away with a flick of his hand.
"Who else is going to talk to her? Jeneve? No, as a dragonrider she falls
under my authority, so I'll talk to her about it. She can either say yes or
no, its up to her, but I'd like to see the kid learn to enjoy who she is."
(Dianne, this is sort of a tag for you. Set up the meeting for whenever)
