NRPG to Wil, and everyone

This is just a re-write of the reply I did to Antwin's last tag. I
don't think it can have got to everyone.... Sorry about that. If you
*did* get the old version, please disregard it.

And Tree - I hope this doesn't mess up your timeline - you're doing an
amazing job at keeping it tangle-free! I think the time has changed
only very slightly

<Snip from Wil's post>

"What I mean is that you still haven't left your desk and the warren
seems
to be running itself well enough. Let's go for a little trip."

"But Antwin, I simply can't - " Jeneve began to protest, but Antwin
sat
down on the edge the desk, leaned across and gently put his finger on
her lips.

"No arguments. I'll carry you out if I need to, but the day is so
lovely
and I really don't want to have to muss your lovely hair."

Jeneve giggled, and ran a finger absently through her hair. "Well,
since
you put it that way, how can I refuse!"

"Good," Antwin took her hand and led her from behind the desk. "Now
let's
get out of here before S'ron or K'tar or Galen or someone else comes
in and ruins our plans!"
<end snip>

Jeneve knew she oughtn't. But the bard was so kind, and so charming.
Surely it wouldn't do any harm?

Jen hurriedly scribbled a note and left it obviously in the middle of
her desk, "in case Breezy comes by and wonders where I am,"

She grabbed a pale blue-grey hooded cloak from a hook by the door,
wrapped it around her shoulders and pulled it over her head.

"With luck, no one will recognise me, and they won't even know I've
slipped out!" she said, with the air of a child who's been shut
indoors in the rain for too long being allowed out to play.

Thanks to Jeneve's height and build, the chance of anyone *not*
recognising the Warrenlady was remote indeed, but Antwin said nothing.

"You'll be able to meet Malani," said Jeneve, as they hurried along.
"She's gorgeous!"

****
Having been warned by Jeneve that they were going somewhere, Malani
was waiting at the edge of the Green. She eyed the bard, warily.

<Are you sure about this?> she asked Jeneve.

<<Yes, don't worry,>> replied Jen. <<This is Antwin - he's nice>>

Jeneve was just about to climb onto Malani's shimmering gold back when
Jack burst into the Green.

"Jen!" he called, before he realised she had company. "Oh," he said,
when he spotted the bard.

"Jack," she said in a loud whisper. "Antwin's showing me around a bit,
taking me on a little outing. You won't tell anyone, will you?"

Jack looked far from pleased, but he mumbled a reluctant agreement.

As Jeneve finished adjusting the straps of Malani's riding harness,
Jack pulled Antwin aside.

"I don't know what you're up to, but whatever it is, you'd better look
after her, she means a lot to me,"

Looking vaguely annoyed, Antwin tried to brush Jen's brother aside,
but Jack was insistent. "Look, I mean it. Yes, I know she's old enough
to make her own decisions, but she's a gentle soul. And if you hurt
her..."

The threat hung in the air, and Antwin realised that Jack was deadly
serious.

"Don't worry, I'll take care of her," he said.

Jack stepped aside, and watched as Antwin climbed up behind Jeneve,
and the golden dragon launched herself into the night sky.

"Alright, then," said Jeneve, her eyes shining with enthusiasm. "Where
to?"

Jack could only watch as Malani blinked out into nothingness. He
hadn't even had the chance to tell her about the surprise present...

<tag Wil - over to you!>

NRPG: And yes, you'll have to wait to see what the surprise present
is! ;)
